I've been away for a while, so excuse me if my impressions are somewhat awry.
Firstly, isn't such 'research' as yours usually undertaken with the consent of the subjects?
As to the US AIDS/HIV issue, my impression from press reports is that the industry has a remarkably LOW rate of infection compared to the overall figures, presumably due to improved health education. The current concern appears rather to be with the alarmingly high incidence of STDs.....
I surmise from the above posts that you are of a younger generation than mine: one that has grown up in an increasingly risk-averse society. I have some small sophistication in statistical analysis, and would contend that the sex industry has risk-factors comparable with, but certainly no worse than, known high-risk occupations such as professional diving, oil rig-working or certain less physically-challenging but highly stress-inducing jobs. The issue of commensurate risk-reward ratios is unfortunately not within my power to address.
By all means let us reduce professional risk as far as possible, but let's not naively pretend that it can ever be eliminated totally.

I agree about ATM and why are producers bringing practices and tastes that used to be the preserve of fetishists on the fringes of sex and plonking them before mainstream punters? As I stated previously I wasn't as rabidly intent on putting the boot into ATM lovers as my previous posts may have suggested. I simply saw them as a handy conduit to let off a little steam. Indeed, I don't actually know any ATM lovers and as far as I am aware I've never met any.
I think ATM is probably an invention of certain adult movie producers who are either so inward looking that they cannot grasp that ordinary folks out on Civi Street (the ones who buy most of the movies) find this kind of thing disgusting, repulsive and simply pointless. Or that they dig it themselves and by making this kind of material they are metaphorically, if not literally, tossing themselves off.
I did recently hear of a well renowned producer being dropped by a large American distributor, not just because of falling sales, but because they were upset and pissed at the kind of material he was now churning out.
