The fact that such an average player is held in such high esteem is due to his pretty boy looks. If Beckham looked like Scholes he wouldn't have half the money. While he maybe forgotten in the future the problem will be that he will keep cropping up at the opening of an envelope being taken out of his box (which probably came in a brown wrapper with the box emblased with "arse bandit sex robot ") and paraded about by the likes of Dave "I'm one of you" Cameron as some kind of spokes monkey for soe load of rubbish ala Olympics.

average player to be fair, no pace,couldnt tackle,couldnt head a ball,couldnt dribble was a bit of a one trick pony if the truths known even at man utd i cant even put him in the top four midfield players when hes up against some genuine talent like giggs,scholes,keane etc
free kicks and dead balls in general fine but theres far more to football than that, he looked good when surrounded by top players

Seriously over rated, a victory for style over substance. Ferguson had the measure of him and got rid! Nice enough guy but if he'd have had the looks of say Peter Beardsley he'd be just a Joe Average Premiership player!
