Re: Asleep at your desk, Argie?
No actually it is the US banking elite trying to screw the major opposition to their ever decreasing grasp on the global financial system. I do recall a lot of blind eyes being turned (no offence Gordunce) when the Nu Labor were in power. You may recall the global meltdown was happening on Labor's watch as well.....and the seeds were well and truly sown on err that'll be Nu Labor again.....
I imagine they are planning to oust some poor sod from Deutsche Bank, Bank of Japan or some other rival to Goldman Sucks. Maybe if TB was less interested in sniffing American arses then we might have seen it coming.

Is this comedy half hour, argie?
"No actually it is the US banking elite trying to screw the major opposition to their ever decreasing grasp on the global financial system."
Well I give you full marks for comedy, but zero for having a clue what you are talking about.
If you had been arsed to look at the first link in my previous message, it refers to JP Morgan and Citigroup in the subpoena for the Libor scandal. They are both American banking groups.
The third link talks about a fine for the Bank of America. Let me give you a clue Argie, they ain't Lithuanian.
THe fourth includes fines for Bank of America (got that one?), J P Morgan (got that one?), Wells Fargo (hint - they never had stagecoaches in Singapore)
And here's another about Wells Fargo, bad luck Wells Fargo!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18822484
And let's not let Goldman Sachs out of the US regulators' targets, shall we
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17694495
And here's a half billion fine from the US regulators for Goldman Sachs
http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010 ... bacus-fine
As for your references to New Labour, if you read this
http://bgafd.co.uk/forum/read.php?f=3&i=260905&t=260889
you will see I make a reference to Blair and Brown's incompetence with regard to getting back at the banks compared to Obama.
While it is reassuring that you have the capability to quote back to me what I state myself, I would prefer if you could think a bit before posting the crap in the message I am replying to now.
Have a nice evening.

Re: Obama or Romney?
It'll be fucking disaster if Romney gets in.
It'll be like George Dubya all over again, only worse.

Argie - read this thread
Argie,
Read this thread. No-one agrees with you. No one!
If you can't see that you have been totally humiliated by your crackpot ideas that there is little to choose in terms of competence between Romney and Obama and that no American banks have been hit by US regulators because they are too busy trying to attack the foreign banks, then you are even thicker than I think you are.
And believe you me, that takes some doing!!

You just showed your hand
You dislike Obama's leadership because he is a 'black' man leading America. He wouldn't be 'black' but 'biracial' if he were deemed a success by you...'innit'.
Now, I am not sure how Obama was any more of a failure than the 'less black' George W Bush, but I trust you will soon tell the world this.

You must a right laugh at parties DJ! Guess what just because you disagree with someone's opinion doesn't mean you are always right. Unless you are a Stalinist who encouraged his supporters to shout down alternative speakers at political rallies. Free speach is great btw!

Argie
1. Argie states "their government, i.e. America is even more in the pockets of the banking elite than ours."
2. I point out that there are a number of American banks who have been fined by US regulators, much more than the UK regulators.
3. Argie states "actually it is the US banking elite trying to screw the major opposition to their ever decreasing grasp on the global financial system"
4. I give Argie numerous examples of American banks being fined by US regulators including Goldman Sachs.
5. Argie states "Guess what just because you disagree with someone's opinion doesn't mean you are always right."
I'm surprised you manage to find your way home in the evening if that is an example of your intelligence.

Re: Argie
While accepting that big business powers America in a way we can hardly
understand, I must say that David is right on this one. God help US and the
World if that buffoon Romney gets into the White House.
David has pointed out that the US Treasury Dept not only has worked hard
to control the excesses of its banking industry but has a lot more clout
than the Brit Govt. Ben Bernake & Co prevented a global financial meltdown
after the Lehman Brothers collapse.
Its just too too easy to think all bankers are bastards. Be thankful that a
few still show integrity and guts, otherwise the World banking order would
implode.
