We were'nt good enough is about right. Some teams had lucky groups, but thats no excuse why we didn't progress.
As a nation that didn't qualify, I'd like to have seen Scotland progress after they beat Italy and France in their group, and there supporters never let their country down.
Having McLaren as coach was the kiss of death from the start

They didnt get enough points, simple as that, even right at the end they had the chance to put it right in a one off game, and failed there as well.

No its not the same without them there, but we have no define right and as has been said earlier, we were not good enough.

Well said Mike.

We had every opportunity to qualify. We failed. Therefore we weren't good enough to be there. End of story.

I watched the Croatia game last night, to see Luca Modric (I'm a Spurs' fan), and thought they were an average side. The fact that we allowed them to block our progress, demonsrates the lack of hunger and organisation England had throughout the qualification process.

On another note, I loved watching Potugal play such attacking football against Turkey. It would be great to see them or Spain turn the whole event into a goal-fest.

England:- A lot of talented under achievers.Missing from Euro 2008 because they are just not hungry enough. The bigger problem could well be now that England will be unseeded and have to scrap it out with everyone else to qualify for the World Cup in 2010.Could this be a return to the 70s when we missed 74 & 78 World cups in what was supposedly a golden decade for British Football?

As to the commentators they soon forget how bad we were in (non) qualifying.I am sure by the end of the tournament many of the same people will be saying "well of course England would walk this......."all very big what ifs..

Part of it is to use Rugby parlance "fronting up" I don't think the England football team have done this for years.I am not even sure they know how to.

On a slightly different footy note it was interesting to see Germany beat Poland with 2 goals from a player who was Polish by birth!

Thought you were smart when you took them on,
But you didnt take a peep in their artillery room,
All that rugby puts hairs on your chest,
What chance have you got against a tie and a crest.

Yes looks like Spurs have pissed up against a wall ?16 million on Modric as I thought he was pretty average and took the easy option on just about every occasion - on the very few times he tried something different he was found out ... can they change their mind - surely they have a clause somewhere that states "if you are shite we don't want you".

Will be good to see how the Russians fair as I still think they are going to be the freshest attacking team in the tournament and still my outside bet - though only Portugal have impressed so far. Also nice to see that Austria are not going to be the walk in the park that everybody forecast - how they lost that game is beyond me.

PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

Hands up, the Austrians were a hell of a lot better than I gave them credit for. Still don't think they'll win a game, or get a draw, but they played well.

The Austrian's have nothing to lose and are just playing for the occasion, though they did give Croatia a scare yesterday. There's simply no pressure on Austria to do well.
