I've seen it...it's about as good as Eli Roth's previous film 'Cabin Fever'. It's not that gory, but it does fall into the 'pointless and gratuitous violence just for the sake of it' category, just like 'The Devil's Rejects' and 'House Of 1000 Corpses'. It's basically a Daily Mail hack's wet dream of a movie...

It might put you off going to Slovakia for your holidays, though...even with the top birds on offer! The overriding message of the film seems to be 'Europeans hate Americans, so don't go to Europe'. Decent idea, so-so execution, and not really that frightening to be totally honest.

I'd give it about a 6.5 out of 10. Reasonably entertaining, but nothing special...I won't be adding it to my DVD collection when it comes out.

Overall, a reasonable review from DanG.
I watched it, and was impressed. Not as violent as the hype has you believe. Overall, a 'generous' 8/10 from Ace

The West London of my youth is now on dvd

It is good...just not 'great'. It's a film I've seen once, enjoyed a bit, but it doesn't give me the burning desire to go and see it again or watch it again on DVD, unlike, say, 'The Usual Suspects' for example. Even when you know the surprise, you can still sit down and watch it again because it's well acted, directed, written with engaging characters.

Hostel doesn't fall into that category for me. Still, I have great hope for Eli Roth. He's made a couple of good horror films, and I've no doubt he will go on to make a few great ones a few years down the line.

The film I really fancy seeing at the moment is 'Inside Man'...is it as good as it looks, anyone?

Ha-ha,

Did the Mail really say that?

The director Eli Roth would love that review.

Hi Guys

I see it last night, its a very very sick film with lots of senseless violence. How did it get a BBFC rating & how much did they give them (backhanders)for this sick shit.
The BBFC fuck our industry up & let films like this that can cause serious damage to play freely at cinemas/video shops etc, where's the justice.

It's been pretty much advertised as such, so you only have yourself to blame should it not be your cup of tea.

Perhaps the BBFC are a bit more sussed regarding modern audience awareness these days. Backhanders? pfft...

They said this sort of thing about american comics in the fifties, didn't they? Then video nasties in the eighties, then.......

You get my point.
