Best way to sell 'vintage' mags and DVDs?

Post by Toady Bunker »

Hi !

I have a collection of magazines (and some DVDs) i'm looking to sell.
About 1,000 mags equally split between the larger format Men Only, Club, Whitehouse, Lovebirds, etc and smaller format hard core European publications like Private, Pirate, Hard Core, Expose, etc.
Date from mid 70's to 2000 with majority being 80's & 90's.
A quick Google shows a number of places advertising in UK that they buy such as Natashas Top Shelf, Adult Mag shop, etc....
Just wondering what your experience is and where is best place to try and sell as a job lot and what sort of price i might expect for the different type of mags?

Cheers!

No.
That's why i'm here :D

Looking for recommendations on who to use.

Also what price to expect per mag from people who've done this before?
If they're selling a mag for £15 what can i expect to get when selling in bulk?
I'll post covers of the DVDs tomorrow.

The only way you'll get a price you want for what you sell is if you sell it yourself.

All these shops are not precious about stock unless they really know it is a collectable item they are getting so they will offer you a price they are willing to pay and not budge because most times they are given boxes of stuff for free from collectors who have passed on and dont want to get fined for fly tipping.

If you consider they have the overheads of running a shop then expect for them to offer you pennies to a few quid per mag depending on the title and its popularity then sell it for a tenner to fifteen quid because they have rent to pay

If what you have is truly collectable then I suggest you keep it or auction it off on AdultStuff.com if you can be patient and prove the authenticity if its an autographed item.

Your chances of getting anything like a fair price are as good as zero. People want stuff giving.

I´ve all my DVDs for sale if anyone´s interested. All 6 BBFC sealed brand new DVDs have been high sellers in the adult shops around the UK, wondering if others wanted to buy them? I can sell them at a reasonable cost inc. p&P...

It's to bad ebay stopped sales of adult products back in 2020 or 2021, I was an avid buyer of mags from that site, at one point there was something like 120,000 adult magazines for sale there.

Adultstuff was OK at one time but recently ran into some problems, I purchased a mag and never heard from the seller again, mag never arrived, still shows I owe the amount due, seller won't respond to my pm's, Adultstuff won't respond, basically I got ripped off, won't deal with them again!

I had a bunch of mags I wanted to get rid of fast because of a life changing event a few years ago, called one of those outfits who will come and take them off your hands, but the problem is whatever you paid for your mags, don't think for a second your going to get anything near that in return by selling to one of these wholesale buyers, they offered me pennies on the dollar, unless you desperately need to clean house before death to save from embarrassing your family, to tell you the truth I would just throw them in the dumpster before giving them to one of these shysters, or give them to someone you know who will take them.

You can try Adultstuff, like I say I had good luck with them at first, but they won't respond to me for shit, and it's a good site, easy to navigate, I think the founders started the site in response to ebay shutting down.

It's all coming back to me now, it was Mr Magazine who I called to offer to take these magazines off my hands, Mr Magazine is one of the biggest magazine resellers out there, and they have the highest prices!
On their website was a notice they buy bulk, and would come to your home or wherever to pick them up, I have the entire series of Hustlers Barely Legal from its premiere issue to about 2018, as well as hundreds more mags of various labels, basically Mr Magazine offered me something like 50 cents a mag, he said they had a tractor trailer load of Barely Legal's, Mr Magazine doesn't give a damn about any sentimental values you may have to your collection, it's straight up purely business!
