I think its more a case that MindGeek have no choice but to play ball.

Thats not to say they havent made it work to their advantage by complying with the government but in all honesty I wouldnt spend time speculating about being screwed over by MindGeek this late in the day.

Its not as if we havent seen this coming for the past several years. Its various incarnations have been evolving since 2007.

The upshot is , everyone has to be age checked if they want to continue seeing all that free porn

What could possibly go wrong?

the easiest option involving no third parties having attributable data would have been for the government to set up a verification system. uk individual enters NHS number into online database on gov.uk, it generates a random code which you then go and enter into the site of your choice.

which would mean the government knows who you are but not where you used the code and the site knows you are over 18 but not who you are. job done.

Yes but , we know better than that dont we M100.

The government wants to know who watches porn so they can set up dirty tricks campaigns. Ha ha Im joking...

Or am I?

Den den derrrr

We have to remember , while in theory that anonymity means something we all know that our activities leave traces that can be detected should anyone need to. Isnt that how they catch these daft gits that look online for kiddy porn.

I mean, youd think the moment put that in their Google search for a laugh after hours that alarm bells are going to ring in some government building somewhere as everyone scrambles in the building like these guys at the porn police

i don't think it's a joke about the dirty tricks I think it's an absolute certainty. A couple of things confuse me about it though. If you pay for sites not owned by mindgeek eg girlsway is the first that springs to mind are you still going to have to go through mindgeek to be able to continue viewing what you actually paid it's rightful owners to view? As that other article suggested the government also seems to be endorsing copyright infringement as this is the equivalent of ten years ago the record companies saying to napster here's all the music we produce everyone has to come to you to listen to it. When you consider that Brazzers material seems to be taken down very quickly from even non-mindgeek tube sites but they claim not to be able to react quite so quickly on their own sites on behalf of other companies then it becomes easier to see the kind of control they are going to have. If they are able to tell which sites, even as far as forums? contain adult material or links to adult material then how can they not know where the images you mentioned are hosted and take those sites down? Or are they simply allowing them in order to catch people and wouldn't that be a further clue to the dirty tricks that await?

Well they are making vast profits from porn as quoted in the article.

As a privately-held company, MindGeek doesn?t want you to know how much it makes from your you-time. But for a peek, consider that MG Billing Ireland Ltd ? the firm?s one-time Irish subscription wing ? filed revenues of $427.17 million (?321.1 million) between 2014 and 2015, or about $585,000 (?439,750) a day. That?s just from the onanists prepared to pay for porn. The ones who aren?t are far more lucrative, thanks to MindGeek's sophisticated online advertising network, TrafficJunky, which serves up highly-targeted adverts based on users' viewing habits, a la Facebook, Google, Amazon and any other data-sucking surveillance capitalist.

A lot of this money is being made from pirated material with the British goverment's blessing, still that should come as no surprise as we know there have been porn lovers in the cabinet, maybe porn found on a certain ministers computer was purely for research purposes !wink!

Given the money they appear to make from the tube sites isn't it surprising that none of the other companies have gone down a similar path. If ads etc led to such riches wouldn't giving away your product in return for ads/tracking etc on your own group site lead to the same riches? maybe they could give away up to 480/720p and save the actual 1080 and above HD for a paysite?

There's been a theory doing the rounds on some sites that record companies are already behind something similar. Leaking their own new releases to file hosts who pay cash per clicks or cash per premium membership bought to file uploaders. I saw one album over the summer appear at least six weeks before it's actual release and on porn forums i've seen files appear before they were actually released on their owners site which based on the relatively small number of people involved shouldn't be possible.

On another note i posted this film on Youtube in June 2015 and to date it's had over 30million hits but they won't let me monetize it because it contains nudity, but they run adds before and after the film which means they are pocketing revenue off the back of my film whilst i get zilch !sad!
