Re: Vote for porn star/ producer/ studio of the year
How would a fan nominate his favorite model or website ?
There are a couple glaring omissions in the nominate, and I remember a debate about it 12 months ago.
A recent Twitter exchange between some performers left me a little confused.

Re: Vote for porn star/ producer/ studio of the year
Well gentlemen...allow me to retort.
If ye seek some transparency I at least have some answers
The votes are all public. The nominations are chosen from those with the most popular votes. We even outsourced the awards by including new sponsor Top Of The Babes whose winner was an eye opener to even me. I had no idea who she was but I know now.
Darren, you shoot for the US market therefore it stands to reason recognition will be given to your work with sponsors who have a vested interest in putting your work forward via AVN.
Ive aways resented the buying of awards. UKAP is about who won it fair and square, whether they be high end producers or amateur up and comers
We don't sit around a table and choose who we think should win. We let the voters do that for us. The voters are those who participated
To those mumbling "fix" I tell you this...UKAP members rarely win anything. If it was a fix we'd be nominating and winning ourselves and wheres the fun in that? But we dont because we prefer to know what or who was the deserving winner of the year. Not who we think it should be. The results often surprise us too and thats what makes the whole thing fun
In short, it is what it is whether we like it or not and we as producers can learn something from this.
There are some glaring ommissions every year because we respect some people/ companies/ studios/ models choose to take themselves out the running because they dont want to be involved as witnessed recently on twitter with one angry model who requested we replace herself with another model. We removed her by request but didnt replace her with the model she suggested because thats not how it works. That may have changed the outcome but as far as the winners of this years awards are concerned, we think it is an accurate reflection from the vote.
Any questions?

Re: Vote for porn star/ producer/ studio of the year
I understand if certain sites or studios aren't interested. Also I think its great that we have these awards.
I understand that UKAP, Paul Raymond and Television X have their own version.
My frustration as a paying consumer of British content is that the performers and sites I believe
are the highest quality are ommitted.
Last year there was a big debate on here about the UKAP awards and I made a note to remember to nominate my favorite
one or two performers this year. The nominations were announced in early August and I saw nowhere where I could have
put someone up. Lexi Lowe and Kieran Lee asked this question on Twitter and were told it's a public nomination
but I saw nothing here or on social networks before the nominees were declared.
One girl was up for an award and didn't even know it until she saw it re-tweeted, five or six performers then questioned
the nominations. Quite rightly as well.
The UKAPHQ Twitter feed said "We're independent of the status quo, Perhaps thats the problem"
You don't say.
I have been buying DVD's and subscribing to websites for 15 years, but I can not take the UKAP awards seriously unless
UK best talent, and top web sites are represented. Most viewers who look for British content know exactly who they are. (After all there is a hell of a lot of rubbish around)
For the 2015 awards how, and when would I NOMINATE my preferred models and websites ?
It's farcical to look at a list of girls and see that 5 or 5 of the UK's top talent aren't on it. Year after year.

Actually that's not what happened if you are referring to Sophia Knight requesting to have her nomination replaced by Jasmine Jae... You did in fact reply to Sophia saying that you would remove her from the nominations and replace her with Jasmine as requested but it was Jasmine who declined that so obviously if somebody kicks up enough fuss that is how it works.
I am not trying to have a go or be purposefully antagonistic of you OEJ or of the UKAP awards as a whole. On the whole I respect UKAP's aim and the work you do for the industry. I'm also grateful for having won the Your Choice girl of the year award at this years UKAP awards which was a huge surprise considering I wasn't nominated in any of the actual UKAP categories.
As Denneboom mentioned I did ask you on Twitter how the nominees were decided and was told it had been decided by public vote however I still don't know where this pre-nomination public vote takes place. If as even you say yourself there are glaring omissions every year from the nomination process perhaps the pre-nomination process needs to be revised?? The UKAP awards have the potential to become a real accolade for the performers and companies who receive them, but as they stand currently they are widely perceived as a non-event which can be proved year after year by the lack of winners present to collect their awards in person.

Not by us.
We let the nominations tell us whats on the voters/ industrys radar and we go along with that
DENNEBOOM: One girl was up for an award and didn't even know it until she saw it re-tweeted, five or six performers then questioned

Clearly she was nominated by someone else or other persons given she found out by retweets (most likely her fans) She clearly is popular but she wanted out of the running and we simply removed her as she seemed genuinely angry about it. We dont want to cause undue stress if people dont want to be included
DENNEBOOM: It's farcical to look at a list of girls and see that 5 or 5 of the UK's top talent aren't on it. Year after year.
Yes I know. W have discussed this. The answer is simply down to the demographic of the voter, Who is popular to the voter may not be popular with you but we're not likely to put them in just for the sake of of it. Its bad enough when people shout out "fix" because the awards are not going the way they want it to
There are probably a lot of people who feel the same as you who don't take it seriously, then there are those who actually make the effort then you are wondering why the outcome is what it is. By not taking it seriously you allow things to go the way they do. I don't see whats wrong with being independent from the status quo ie corporate companies Maybe thats why a lot of models who normally get overlooked get their first awards through us (in this case Tina Kay & Stella Cox and Cherry Delainey for Top Of The Babes and not caught up in the politics of who sponsors the most money gets the most say who wins.
Its as just much fun for us to see the results as well. That's what makes it fun for us...Or at least it is under my watch. I cant speak about previous efforts.

You are correct in saying that I would remove Sophia by request (which I did) but incorrect in saying I agreed to replace her with whom she suggested. .
We couldnt just replace Sophia with another model that late anyway. It wouldnt be fair to use Sophias votes for the model she chose so I couldnt see how that would work so late into the voting process
I told the webmaster of the voting site and he simply removed her.

If winners can't be bothered to turn up because they see us as a non event then thats a matter for themselves to deal with. These events have not done anything personally to those people so their snubs are unwarranted. I've seen the same attitude from some that say they wont come unless they have won something totally missing the point that its a network event in which they can promote themselves and getting work. Ive found some of my best shoots meeting in social events like this.
If you want to help bring about change to your business then get involved with people that can help do that
We had a fantastic party at XBiz recently. Ask anyone who attended
My answer is the business at large needs to be taken seriously by those in it. Why just put it on UKAP and how it deals with awards
There were far more pressing concerns at XBizEU recently such as:
The Adult Providers Network
Age Verification:
Sex & Censorship on legislative changes coming into effect next month.
It would be better if people didnt place so much emphasis on awards but more on the business itself. Awards are a nice recognition for efforts but it shouldnt be the be all/ end all of an event
