WAM and underwater shoots

Post by essexvideophoto »

Serious post...these underwater cameras that shoot in full HD are now loads more affordable than ever before. They are the sort of cameras you normally find strapped to a snowboard or the handlebars of a mountain bike but I say shoot porn with them instead.

Has anyone ever used one of these? I'm thinking of going for the GoPro Hero 3 Silver, it shoots full HD footage in a number of formats.

I'm this close to getting one of these little cameras as I've seen all the tests and the footage looks great. If anyone is looking for something a bit different in their content like a bathtime video or stills shoot that follows the action under the water, a WAM shoot where we can get up close to the action without destroying the precious camera, or a good old fashioned fuck in a swimming pool, I may be able to help!

I think I am (quite possibly ) the firtst on these shores to use a Contour HD POV camera on my photoshoots as a cut in to two other fixed cameras on my behind the scenes shoots...But no one has ever commented...Or cared !sad!.....Or complained for that matter !happy!

I started out with the first gen Contour HD camera with the laser sighting to line up shots but hnow have the blue tooth one where you can control the functions on the camera via your iphone ...Snazzy. i wore it on the underground and filmed myself walking around jut to see the members of the publics reaction to what i had on my head

Heres an example:

The frame grabs give you an idea how it looks. If you want good sound you should record from a better quality source which i take the sound from another camera and sync all the clips to it and multicam edit 3 cameras in post

Nice example there Jack, I'll look at this camera against the GoPro Hero 3 Silver. Just trying to do some different stuff this year for my adult and other video work. For outdoor shoots (when the bloody snow clears and it warms up) it's a bit more discreet using this sort of camera and it shoots at different frame rates and picture sizes which can help.

I think the Hero cams have an edge over the Contour in terms of image quality and the underwater housings for the Contour are quite cheap at about ?50

Have a look here there should be sample footage on the site too

I bought the Hero 3 Black edition for the very same reason - underwater wet and messy shots - and unde the table foot fetish films. It came last week - had to return the first one because it was faulty. But the quality on this is brilliant - so much so Im getting second. I did have the earlier gorpo but the new ones have far better low light capability. You can also view the live image on your phone (donload the app).

Hope that helps

Sony HDR-GW77V is an alternative. It handles more like a conventional camcorder with the usual manual adjustments eg white balance etc.It does not have different wide angle modes like the gopro, but the footage does not suffer from fish eye effect. One big advantage it has over gopro is the macro mode. You can take close up action to within an inch while the minimum focal length for gopro is about 6 inches.I have footage of white fanny juice coming out from the fanny under water like a puff of smoke.

I purchased a Kodak Playsport last year they work underwater and shoot full HD + other resolutions, they fit in your pocket same as a phone i carry mine with me everywhere, they are also affordable.

I shot this with it last summer whilst paddling off the sussex coast, sorry it;s not porn !wink!

Thank you all for your input, always nice to hear what people are using. Will look further into the makes you suggested but I think I fancy the GoPro Hero 3 Silver as it seems the only one that shoots at 24fps as well as more common frame rates. Also it's a bit cheaper than some of the others.

We use a Samsung waterproof camera we bought in Argos for ?80, it is waterproof to a depth of 5 metres & has a detachable float so it can be used in pools etc.
It films in MPEG4 1080p at 24 frames on a SD card & has a fixed lens, its ideal for bukkakes,water-sports, gushing, splosh etc because its easy to wash in the sink after.
We put it through Pinnacle & it edits fine with AVCHD clips from the Sony camera.

The newer model of the W300 seems to only do 25fps, I'd need a camera to do 24 as my Canon EOS 550D shoots at 24fps, which I prefer for that "film" look that people want these days in non-adult stuff (I make music videos and documentaries when I'm not shooting porn). That said, it's ?99 vs. ?279 for the Hero3, so quid for quid the W300 is not bad at all. Spunk and gush resistant too, making it a very good contender.
