More about Blunkett
Tessa Jowell - oh dear
Well.... her previous performances leave me with little confidence. The ultimate nannying minister. Read Richard Littlejohn in today's Sun (p11) for a laugh....

Re: More about Blunkett
The trouble is the Labour Party is the last bastion of old-fashioned anti-sex feminism. You'd have to go a long way to find a modern feminist who genuinely thinks that "porn is the theory, rape is the practise" - even in America. It's so blatantly obvious that porn is the theory, energetic sex is the practise, and the pendulum of feminist opinion has swung back towards the kind of sex-is-good-cos-women-get-pleasure attitudes of the 60s rather than the sex-is-sexist-because-men-get-pleasure 70s/80s attitude. The fact that - PARTLY BECAUSE OF PORN - 21st century men are a lot better and less selfish in bed than their 70s counterparts could even be part of the reason (I once shagged a woman in her early 40s who claimed that no one had gone down on her until 1979). But the Labour Party is still full of old-school campus feminists - women who haven't changed their opinion since the mid 80s and men desperate to look right-on by keeping them happy. That's why their views on porno are so old-fashioned, and so out of touch with feminist and couldn't-give-a-shit-about-feminists alike.
By the way, it sounds sick but I've thought about this a lot and can't come to any conclusion - would the fact that Blunkett's blind and can therefore have no real understanding of a mainly visual medium affect his ability to pass judgement on it?

Re: More about Blunkett
Like you, I've been wondering about Blunkett's unfortunate problem and how it will/can affect his ability to reach a sound judgement, but from a slightly different angle. How about Rebekah or Lyla-Jade or Wendy volunteering for the job of describing the various videos for him, but naturally in such a way that he can only say yes. But get him to sign before you get to the vinegar strokes!!
Re: More about Blunkett
I don't think you'll find anything in the Treaty of Rome, or Maastricht, or anywhere else in the EU accords that refers to porn; and I don't think that anyone in Brussels gives a stuff about our repressed attitudes, so I doubt if Blair and Co are worried on that score.
However, they may be getting bored with attempting to stem the tide of filth in the face of a public which by and large aren't worried about it.
Jack Straw had personal family reasons for his crusade. I am not aware that Blunkett was whelped into a nest of paedophiles, so he may be less inclined than Straw to waste energy on a hopeless battle.
There is of course a parallel situation where the government is continuing to pedal uphill against all common sense, and that is in their refusal to decriminalise cannabis. Given their pigheadedness on that issue, they may continue to be pigheaded on porn.
Ah, well.

Good call
Somebody had to find me out. Congratulations.
It was all speculation on my part and I had, of course, overlooked such things as the Treaty of Rome; porn; punters; for the use of.
But only because I honestly believe that all politicians are even more likely to overlook such ?facts? as long as it suits them and they stay the right side of an (ill-informed) public opinion.
So as long as we all keep quiet (are you reading this, Ben) we might just get away with it by default.
By the way, Callipygea: nice arse ? are you a Greek statue?
:.)
