The new age is all about the social networking Jim.

One only has to see that sites like Google and SpaceFace are poised to make billions from people socially interacting.

If you are really clever, maybe you can come up with an idea that marries the two together.

People will still pay for porn if they are interested enough in the content and what the site offers but with the content side you are going to need lots of it or something very special and nasty aggressive porn is not the way to go. it will only put you on the radar of her majestys constabulary who will come around knocking with men in white coats ready with 30ccs of Thorazine

Early next year loads more TLDs will be available on the webb TLDs being the last word in a domain ie: com, org, ,net, and you could even register your own for example www.promotion-forum.bgafd could be the full domain not sure what the cost would be but there are loads more allready registered where you can tag on to like London and even Gay is registered so your domain could finish .gay now thats got you thinking the pink??? i dont know if Porn is registered yet or Fetish but you will be able to tailor make your domain to fit your cloth so when a punter does a niche search your site will be more prominent on the page, well thats the theory but you do need to think outside of the box these days, best of luck !wink!

Making a profit isn't easy in any business these days.

But I think a lot of adult producers (and distributors, webmasters, retailers, etc.) were really quite spoiled throughout the the late 90's to the mid 00's. All you had to do was say "HEY! I HAVE PORN OVER HERE," and people would line up. This is especially the case in the U.K. since porn only became legal in 2001. The public was so damned starved for the stuff that making money didn't require a ton of effort.

As a result (both in the U.K. and U.S.) the market became saturated with largely poor and mediocre content sold and distributed by half-wit hacks. This forced the consumer to wade through piles and piles of garbage (at a wildly inflated retail price) in order to find something they really liked.

The result of this is still felt today in the form of rampant illegal distribution (e.g. tubes, torrenting, file sharing).

Look, piracy and counterfeiting is a problem. But I feel like we have to ask ourselves why this is the case.

And simply put, the industry shot itself in the foot.

For probably the better part of a decade, customers were ripped off at every turn. For membership sites, it was shady billing practices, poor (often resold and recycled) content, and poor updating that disenfranchised customers. On the VHS/DVD market it was poor quality matched with outrageous prices from a million different studios who were all creating market confusion with similar branding.

So who blames consumers for trying to get it for free after being fucked over so long?

Our continued success proves that people will pay for product. All they ask is quality, a decent price, and customer service.

Now, I won't sit here and try to make out like we're all over here lighting our fat cigars with ?100 notes while driving around in Bentleys. But we're doing okay.

The point is that if you want to sell product in this business today, you have to actually *gasp* work hard like every other schmuck in the world. And I worry that we feel some sense of entitlement to easy money sometimes because we didn't have to bust our asses as much to be successful in the old days.

Amber, to you, I have one other piece of advice.

Shoot what you love.

The reason I say that is because customers can tell when you're outside your depth. Whether you're a producer or performer, you have to have a genuine interest in what your doing in this industry.

The most classic examples have been the hilarious results of historically straight studios/directors/marketing hacks who have tried to produce gay content. If you can't identify with the product your selling (particularly in porn) you're sunk from the get-go.

But it's like that with every type of content.

A great example of when it works is John Stagliano. He makes butt movies. Why? Because he fucking loves butts. And any customer who shares his passion will be able to see that. The result is sales.

If you're kinky, shoot kinky stuff. Do your research and cast well. The results will always show.

And yes. Marketing plays a role, but it's a damn sight easier to market something that's been made with love and passion than some half-assed attempt into unfamiliar realms.
