On the face of it Christian you are correct, unfortunately however, the UK porn industry has a peculiar habit of emulating everything that happens in LA. So if there is an HIV scare over there, we over here go into hysterics, regardless of the circumstances.

It is my belief that at some point in time a Christian motivated US lawyer will launch a case against a producer maybe on similar lines to the cases brought against the tobacco companies, namely that he, the producer, forced performers to behave in a "reckless manner, by not allowing his performers or (employees) to wear condoms for protection and in so doing created a situation where one of the actors contracted HIV".

In this way, the enforced use of condoms would be the first knee jerk reaction, by porn producers, however condoms are not fool proof, so the anti porn lobby just has to wait till the first condom, "Mishap" and voila, you have the end of US porn. Not because of legislation but because of the fear of litigation!

The Brits would then follow suit, why? Fuck knows why! So everyone will head for Europe where they just, "Get on with it!" lol

The US stars are high risk because of their involvement with South American stars where certs are unheard of, because of this most responsible UK producers want to see certs dating back 2-3 months of anyone living / working in the States.
For us who have liability insurance we would have to adapt to new changes or risk policies being void...saying this whats the point of certs, liability insurance etc because its all a big sham anyway lol!

To get to the point... I will use condoms privately and with partners in what I'll describe as reality. All the time, without exception. But as a consumer of porn I don't want to see condoms in my fantasy and honestly I don't want to shoot 'condom porn.'

I do agree with Jim that a clear distinction should be made between the world of swinging and the world of porn production. Completely separate beasts, one hairier than the other.

I wouldn't say health was the last thing on the list. I would in fact say that health is a very close second if not equal to making good content that I can use on my list of shoot responsibilities. There is an inherent risk to everything we do in life and every job isn't without it's own set of occupational hazards.

Hazards that we have to accept in that field of work.

One of the jobs of the producer is to assess the risk and take steps to minimise the risk - not actually eradicate it. No business, company or organisation is tasked with risk eradication!

I also don't feel the need to recompense by providing sexual awareness or sex education to offset my desire to shoot condom free porn.

And ultimately, for the cynics among us, this mandate from LA might not even be about porn at its root. Look at who lobbied for the Ordinance - Aids Healthcare Foundation, look at the supporters of it and look who on the county's panel voted to approve. It could very likely be (pardon the pun) a back door into people's bedroom. It is after all not a big leap from set to bedroom.
Kind Regards
Ben

why would any producers need to move to different country? this is an LA county law, so they can simply relocate out of LA to another city, san francisco for instance. this will only serve to remover revenue from the city of LA.

"It's a fucking condom! He's not wearing a clown costume. If you spend your whole time staring at what the guy has on his cock you're probably watching the wrong kind of porn"

At last someone talking sense lol!

Hooray for Jim Slip

Post by frankthring »

I don`t always see eye to eye with Jim Slip on this site. I don`t even
see eye to eye with him all the time in real life. And I don`t think the
porn industry has shrunk 70%. I think it has evolved and is constantly
evolving....
But, my word, Jimbo, you write sensibly and rightly regarding all this
condom nonsense ! Well done ! (if I don`t sound too condescending,
which happens with me, but is not intentional).
The L.A. big companies are already thinking that if this condom law gets
past their lawyers, who will fight it, that shoots will just move out of town.
Its that simple. Pasadena is no distance. Some might move to San
Francisco where the world`s most successful S/M website is based and
many movies, such as "Behind The Green Door", one of the early classics,
was shot by The Mitchell Brothers.
Jim is right to say that in USA certain people are following an agenda more
complex than just the safe sex issue....they will keep pushing ! But the
USA is a federal republic and many States outside California remain easy
on porn (and so far we are just talking one city...I would find it very hard
to believe that liberal laid-back San Francisco would vote this way).
Some business may well head back to Prague or Budapest where US
producers have been scarce of late.
I respect people who do not like condomless porn. Yes, it is safer. But the
vast majority of porn fans do not want to see it ! Its that simple.

I agree that this move to ratify the condom act is to effectively shut down the porn business because if all the fans favourite porn stars did condom sex in their scenes it just makes porn look sterile and politically correct.

Throw all your criticism at porn being racist, sexist, misogynist or anything with an ist on the end and you'll be right. You know why?

Because porn is the last frontier of honesty that is rebellious enough to stick two fingers up at the establishment because it is simply rock n roll by nature. Thats just how its always been.

Porn tells you a lot about the world we live in. Or so I think anyway

Force this underground and a whole slew of new producers will come out of the woodwork to make a name for themselves and when the shit gets hot, they'll duck out of it so fast you didnt know they ever existed. (Think of a british equivalent to that in recent years? :-)

Porn stars as I've often said are like the modern day equivalent to gladiators. No one wants to see gladiators fighting with loads of protection unless they are the prized ones doing the killing.

Kim I hear you but Jims right, swingers are totally different to the pro porn circuit. Take the gamble and go condom and the industry will die faster than a bullet to the head. It would be more erotic to see a woman getting fucked through her knickers (and probably safer than a condom too)

It works for you because it would be insane for swingers to not use condoms. If performers are professional then they should exact the same care in their lives off camera as they do in front of it

For the most part, it has worked so far

Before critics launch a counter attack on the basis that porn producers exploit to make money (yes we do. I aint a charity) and dont care about the health of our performers bear this in mind:

Many producers have campaigned for change and the whole thing fell down because of inconsistencies with the various entities that provide testing for a fee or free

There was just not enough interest for it to work effectively and we've had three campaigns in 10 years that simply doesnt work

I seriously dont see condom porn ever working. Its only ai is to shut the business down. Its certainly not about the health of the people that work in it.

If the government really cared about the health of porn stars then they should provide free testing for everyone in the sex business because there is no guarantee with condoms whatsoever

We have washed our hands with this subject now & realise we are pissing in the wind, like the States some of our private clinics are rip off merchants that provide full certs on a single blood test...no swaps mouth genitals etc but they get away with it through industry backing.
Then you get Pro companies knocking the national health service testing who do the best job of the lot & you wonder why they back these private cowboys & is there money involved??

Us & quite a few other Pro companies use condoms without it effecting our sales so saying it will kill UK porn is bullshit & just the preference of individual producers, we shoot with swingers/amateur industry & yes it is different as there are less cases of STD's among them than Pro stars who average a few.

The reason for this is that most of the amateur industry use both certs & condoms...we ourselves would not shoot anyone who as not had 3 clear consecutive monthly certs.
So yes amateur & Pro are different as one is safer than the other, why do you think we only use some mainstream stars & not others, let the Pro industry keep their dodgy private clinics & Mickey Mouse certs & we will live in the real world with safe certs & condoms...America are not doing this to end porn in the States or because of beliefs by some religious crazy people only the safety of the porn stars.

Would the BGAFD do an anonymous vote on here so the porn stars themselves could vote & stay unknown to wether they would prefer condoms or not.
