If you break into someone's house and steal their fillet steak, then that person has no fillet steak. If someone copies your photos/videos then you still have your photos/videos.

Notice the difference?

On the other hand, if someone walks into your house and takes the hard drive with the only copy of your photos/videos, then that would be like you stealing their fillet steak. Because you would no longer have the photos and the videos.

On the broader question, porn isn't being killed by piracy. But people shooting static porn and selling it will not have as a good time as they may have had earlier.

Much like the music industry the money is moving towards live performances.

A porn actress can set up her own site and sell live shows, and do private shoots with her fans (solo, b/g, whatever). Look at the number of models making money on sites like Purestorm doing adult work for GWCs (Guys with Cameras). And she can use other photos to advertise herself.

But yeah, the golden age for a lot of producers is over.

Adultwork is the way forward for all producers at present...easy to use, you can earn decent money & its bloody hard to steal footage from their site.
Another reason their is no money in porn is everybody's (1000's) making material compared to a couple of dozen when we started.
ATVOD, BBFC sites & XXX.com are not a good factor for internet sales but pushing porn underground again might even kick start it again...who knows.

Piracy is a major factor in depriving most media based industries of income. The company I'm involved with tracks sales and we can always tell when something has been ripped and posted online as sales flatline immediately.

A few DMCA takedowns later and we'll see small spikes in sales but the damage has been done by then.

The answer? Dunno. But to me they're the equivalent of that bloke in the pub who never buys a drink himself, instead freeloading off of everyone else. In my experience they usually get slapped, it's just a matter of time

Theft is theft. There will always be dishonest, disreputable people stealing from legitimate business people and trying to justify themselves. and their actions. Anonymity and hiding in countries that don't enforce the law is their passport to evading monetary damages and legal ramifications. Anyone who supports and promotes piracy of any kind, not just porn, but mainstream films, ebooks, art, video games-- any kind of digital product--is a dishonest person.
