Red Hot-price reduction

Post by Cringemaker »

Red Hot seems to have reduced its nightly fee from ?4.99 to ?3.99 (it was ?3.50 when they started).
Presumably because the competition has grown in quantity if not quality.

I guess their subscriber base is diminishing. Reasons? - General lack of interest amongst the punters and, as you suggest, more customer choice.

In these instances the first thing that comes into the mind of unimaginative marketing types is to cut their prices. This seems the obvious answer. But strange as it may seem this frequently doesn?t work, and in some instances can hasten the decline. My mate P R Mann will tell you that as soon as the punter is presented with "Price Reductions' 'Sales' and 'Super Savings' the customer unconsciously senses that the company is struggling which makes them even more reluctant to enter into a financial transaction with the ailing company in case they are dragged down with them. On the other hand, if the ailing company can maintain it's nerve and give the impression that theirs is a superior product that is in such demand that no price adjustment or discounts are necessary and that "If you need to ask the price Sir, you're probably not the sort of client we encourage" it will frequently bolster their position. This may be a marketing mirage, but it gives an air that the company is rock solid, that the product is successful, that it is an aspirational luxury item in major demand amongst the in-crowd. Everyone, unconsciously or otherwise, wants to be associated with those positive images, with success.

All fair enough: but....
.... 'if you don't need to ask the price- you're a bloody fool'.
Applies equally to both Rollmops, and Rollers.
