Is this a scam?

I get the odd email from people saying they have joined my site, but there user name and password dosn't work! I don't actually handle that myself my billing co issue them so I always tell them to contact them! And the site works fine when i check it. So is this a scam? just trying to get a username and password out of me?

Assuming that these people have used a credit card(the most common form of subscription) asked them for some details-eg name on card and last 4 digits.Your billing company should then be able to find,very quickly,if these card details have been used on your site.You should also be able to get a list of subscribers for your site,from your billing company.

Yes it's a scam, I've had these emails aswell. Unless they email using the address they signed up with then I ignore them. And as you say, first stop is the billing company anyway if they handle the username etc.

You need to check to make sure they have paid but also don't just dismiss as a scam.

Find out what the real problem is and see if there is a possible fault that is causing it.

I joined one had the password etc but simply couldn't get in.

The fault was very easily sorted by a member here whose ID I have forgot sorry but it was simply case of putting a number on the end of a driver program that was running but crashing because the cams / login on the site were not compatible with my system.

It's very very easy especially for the porn industry to dismiss problems in it but my advice would be check and don't say fuck off your trying your luck.

Surely you have a control panel from the billing company so you can see who your members are.

When someone joins your site the billing company's software sends your name/password combination to the hidden password file on your server. It can easily happen that a glitch somewhere in the process can stop it getting through.

I had a spate of this a few years ago with newly signed up members complaining they couldn't get into the site. When I checked the CCBill control panel it showed they had paid, but their passwords were not in the password file on my server. This happened just now and again and CCBill couldn't find anything wrong in the system. EVENTUALLY after I went through all the CCBill code on my server to see how it worked, I found there was an intermittent DNS resolution problem between my server and CCBill's. I fixed the problem by substituting my server's numerical IP address for the domain name in the CCBill account set-up page.

So.......it could be a scam, but genuine glitches can happen.

I've also had emails saying they've lost their username etc which is another one to check and refer to CCBill.
