I'm soon to be visited by a adult video producer, with a view to becoming his regular editor of videos.
As there are several people in his list to try out, I've said I will edit the first film for free so he can decide if he likes my style, and wants me to do them all for him.
This will be the first tiem I am editing adult videos for a company, and dont know what pay to ask for/expect.
These are adult amateur hardcore videos produced in UK with low budget but are produced for an overseas market which some of them do very well in.
I'd be greatful if any producers would e-mail me directly and give me an idea of the sort of money they are paying their editors.
Similarly if there are any editors out there please mail me and let me know what I should be expecting. Thanks.
Question for producers
Re: Question for producers
If you are proficient in Final Cut Pro, Avid or After Effects you could expect ?250 a day, which is what one famous UK stud I know of (not BD) paid to have such a guy edit some his well popular series together. It all depends on your ability; remember buying a trowel does not make you a bricklayer. There is artistry in good editing and the editor of the videos I just referred to was later commissioned by a British posh car company (at considerably more then ?250 a day) to edit together a promo vid for their new model.

Hey guys, don't tell me I've been buying videos that are not 100% ACTT crewed.

Re: Question for producers
I have been trained in Avid and Final Cut Pro, but these guys are only going to be producing 1 video every few months so its not like it would be my whole livlihood, more like a side project for me. I very much doubt they would monitor my actions, or time how long it takes me to do it. It would be more like "heres the tapes, edit them into a programme and we'll pay you when its finished", so what I'm asking is not per day but per film.
Theres not a great deal to be done in terms of special effects, just a nice title sequence, adding music, credits, butt-editing shotos of the action, transitions between scenes, and chopping and moving certain parts of the audio track.

Re: Question for producers
Well, just see how many days it takes. If you are doing it as part hobby or favour then maybe you would just charge them 'a drink? but if you are doing it in time when you need to be earning your living you have to charge for your time. Your bills will not stop piling up while you are editing these videos.

Re: Question for producers
Agree ?250 a day is fine. In the good old days you'd get ?1000 a movie. But I suspect those days have long gone as well.
Re: Question for producers
Yeah Dave, I'm sure those days are long gone sadly. Mind you editing has got a lot easier. I can do better effects these days usin non-linear systems than I ever could in the days of non linear decks, vision mixers and timecode controllers. All of it faster than before too. You dont have to start all over again if you notice an error these days either.Dave Wells wrote:

Re: Question for producers
It takes years to learn to cut a good porn vid I know I taught a few, keep it simple and to the plot, I would ask what they can afford after you do the first one, we take a day a scene to edit so around a grand is about right for an edit of a movie,

Re: Question for producers
If you have never edited porn before then it would seem fairly reasonable for a producer to want to see what you can do for him before parting with large sums of cash. Do you have a queue of people outside your door all offering to pay a ?1000 for editing a movie, if the answer is no, then perhaps ?250 might seem a fair sum.
