TV Series (Not The Type You're Thinking)

Post by RobC2010 »

Hi Everyone,

First up, got to admit i'm a big fan of all your work. If my mother ever asks however i've never even heard of porn!

I'm posting to ask you all a rather odd question, and luckily it's not begging for a job! I'm an aspiring (Some would say unemployed...) scriptwriter and i've recently had the incredible brainwave of writing a drama show around the world of porn. Kind of like Nip/Tuck meets Vivid...

I want to focus on the human character side of it, sticking to limited and implied nudity/sexuality, so it's not going to be an adult channel type show. My main story revolves around two brothers who run a quite succesfull company, one a rather recluse shy character who just seems to want out but has fallen into the classic trap of just doing one more to pay the bills, and the other the complete opposite, for the love of pure fucking each and every day. Again, I'm using Nip/Tuck as a large base plate and it's really the type of style I want to go for.

I'm asking you all because despite much research (Honest!) I know relatively little to nothing about the actual inner workings of the porn industry. I'm also looking for some 'home-truths' and reality stories, stuff that has happened to you or anyone you know to add into the storylines. I have a basic plot arc, with events-within-episode content, but i'm really looking for some flesh to put on the bones. I know some of the issues facing your industry at the moment, but if you could help with anything else it'd be much appreciated...

Please reply on here if you're interested in helping.

Sounds intresting, you mean like Boogie Nights for TV & close to the Red Shoe Diaries type of thing but more about the people. It'd be great to have cameos from stars in it :D.

As an aspiring screenwroter I'm sure you know how pretentious those you have to pitch to can be so it's going to be a hard sale & probably not a good idea to use Nip Tuck as the sale else you're just going get the it's already been dones :(.

I'm not sure if I can help but I know how hard it can be trying to get a answer or just the courtesy of a reply. I'm sort of an amatuer model/performer I suppose in that I've done a few scenes now, everyone I've worked with has been fantastic it's just some of the nonsense I've suffered in between that almost sours the experience for me so I sort of fall in the middle of both your characters perspectives. It's still something I really really want to do but I'm not too keen on letting people know that if that makes sense.

Email me direct.

My first take though, make it a girl and guy running it (business partners, not a couple) as that will allow a lot more scope for all those comedy human interactions with boyfriends/girlfreinds/costars and family members knowing/not knowing.

I still love performing and shooting, and always happy to help people make porn. Esp if tittivation.com will be an outlet :-)

Hi Rob,

I think it is a great idea to do a drama about people working in the porn industry but i agree with Paul - a male and female run business would proberbly be more popular,

plus the people who love the job are more additive to the camera then the sex ......
they don't just hold a camera and film us fuck , its very unpersonal,
ie they say they want 5 mins of doggy then 3 mins of pile driver ect its all directed out for us - how long to do what when to change position, when to do the pop shot ect, as long as learning to show everything to the camera crew filming hard and hide the penetration/pink/cock from the camera crew filming soft, the result is the most important thing to a performer - making good/hot footage that the viewers can get off on.

I love my job and feel like im kind of addicted to the industry, but it is much more technical then people realise,

please email me direct if i can help in any way on tanyacox@live.com

Luv Tanya

Hi Rob,
It sounds like an interesting concept, but I think the other posters are right to say it's going to be a tough sell for the mainstream. Making your characters sympathetic to an audience that might be largely anti-porn is a tricky prospect.

The other thought that strikes me is that UK porn has less of a glamorous image than US porn, so a show set in the latter country could have more of a glossy look. Unfortunately, the power of the Christian right in the States could lead to a boycott of advertisers if they don't like the show's message (cf. Ellen de Generes coming out as a lesbian), meaning networks might be reluctant to buy the show.

One option might be to set the programme in Europe, but with British lead characters who are fighting against the established European companies. You could then play the plucky-Brits-against-the-evil-foreigners card.

As you've probably guessed from the above, I've got a bit of an interest in scriptwriting too, so if you think any of my thoughts are useful, give me a shout.
Cheers,
Adrian

Brillant! idea with the male & female partnership gives way more scope :d. Erm you've re-lit my creative pilot light Mr Jones & Miss Cox.
Sex behind close curtains, what will the neighbours say? :d genius the both of you.
I think go opposite from glamourous as you want it to seem as normal as possible to them & don't want to emphasise the porn good or bad debate before we're had a chance to get to know them.
I think you will have more success pitching it to someone at HBO stateside, it's way too hard to sell in the UK unless you're already working for a production company or know someone on the inside.
If you sell it as more Secret Diary of a Call Girl you may have more luck as that's still running on terestrial digital TV here.

Id love to help (masiedee@googlemail.com) but like wise am worried about the chances of you getting a pro pron series passed the tv executives. The hardest thing I can see you being faced with is the fact that porn people are normal people, we're quite a dull bunch with our clothes on.
