hey there Sean,
You could start up any business with any small amount of cash, whats more important though is - "will it be successful and earn you money back?"
Couple of things for you to think about (and if you ask nicely one of the producers MAY direct you a bit more specifically!)
what is your product? - Specifically, as porn is everywhere, differentiation is a big key to production success. If you're doing the same thing as everyone else, you'll die a quick death, because there are others in the same space with an existing share of the same market, which will be easily retained. So do you have something niche? (i.e. never-seen-before) OR are you going to creat a better product?
How will you sell your product to the market? - what relationships will that require? presumably selling over the web, you need to do some traffic analysis. How much content do you need in order to launch? and then how quickly can you expect a return? Remember that once you put the cameras down, the bulk of the work is still to be done in order to make it sellable content.
What are the set-up and running costs to meet your product requirement? (specifically measured against your projections to the last question) - Have you investigated all the aspects? Shoot costs can include hardware (cameras and lights), locations, models, agency fees, travel, web/product design... etc... etc...
Remember you'll most likely need to spend plenty of time educating yourself too - whats the difference between HDR-FX1 and HVR Z7U, if it's your money you need to know because no one else will care if your product sells.
Lastly think about the time investment you have to make in order for it to work. There will be a period of production when there is no return on your investment, so how long can you afford to run without paying yourself a wage? OR how long can you continue to fund the project by drawing cash from another? (i.e. your day job)
I would spend a bit of time finding out what production cost is and match that against your capital requirment, while researching for yourself if it will ever sell in the first place.
Have a think about how this fits against the ideas in your head, I've never run a porn production but I've built a few start ups.
Hope this makes you pause for thought before you start excitedly calling up models to arrange shoots.
JW

Sean you'll be everyone friend for flashing the cash but its better to be known for having a product that sells rather than the guy buying all the drinks, making a film for ?500 or ?50,000 don't make a difference as they could both end up earning the same returns. Before spending find out where your outing your goods & the cost of this, then work out an happy medium of what you will have left. Making the films is the easiest bit but the hard work is selling them.

If you've ?20,000 to spend, my advice would be to put ?19000 into an account that you cant touch for 3 months. Then spend this time thinking about what you intend to do with it.

Good advice!
Ignore the inevitable emails you will have received by now offering "partnership"!
Start small and if it works, grow it. If not, you've lost little.

Offer to buy an established business, I have been offered a few in the past, so they are out there.
That way you will generate income while building it up.

Yes, I've seen quite a few poor saps relieved of all their money over the years, on the promise of, "No probs mate, I'll make you a great film". I bet you can already guess the outcome!
