New Cameraman seeks advice

Post by dark1xxx »

I have a TV and film background and have been wanting to move into the adult film industry for a while now. I have some of my own equipment (Sony PD150 camera, can hire lights from colleagues) and I am fully confident on all cameras but I don't think I am in the right areas to get the work.

So the first query is, does anybody need a cameraman for future shoots?
Am willing to travel and work on as many shoots as possible to learn. I am definitely willing to learn as much as possible.

Feel free to email me for advice mate.
You didn't say what you were wanting to actually get out of the biz though.
Do you want to run your own site? - or work for someone else?
With the exception of a few big names the adult game is a cottage-industry in this country.
What mean is that most people are doing everything themselves so the first thing for you to decide is just how much you are prepared to do.
As to working for other people - it's usually a case of dead-man's-shoes.
In my opinion your first task is to start working with models and get some experience because since you say you are new to this you will find it perhaps a steep learning-curve. Shooting adult stuff is as different as anything can be. It's like moving from shooting wildlife in the Arctic to covering the G20 protests... a whole new ball-game.
Have fun.
Daz.

Thanks guys for the advice

Carder - True about the PD150. I only have that as I am mostly using z1's and DSR's hired in by the production company. I have it sitting there so I guess it would be good to put it to use. But I am definitely looking to get a higher end camera in the near future.

UglyDaz- I plan to work camera mainly and hopefully provide my own line of films. I have ideas and want to be able to use them. I do agree with you about the filming being a very different experience. I hope I am adaptable enough to be able to make it initially working for others and then myself. I will email you for some advice.

Thanks once again guys

If your own films are the aim, just start booking girls (and guys?) and filming. You already have the basics - assuming you can light a scene it's all "framing, framing, framing" and getting the best out of your performers (try not to give too much direction). Practice does it.

When you think you have the material for the market, start marketing.

See if you have a business.

You might make a business in the following ways

a) Your on spec stuff can be sold to sites.
b) Your own paysite
c) You impress people who commission you to do stuff.

But it's tough out there - view 2009 as training/library building/networking and maybe 2010 will be better.

I still love performing and shooting, and always happy to help people make porn. Esp if tittivation.com will be an outlet :-)
