The future of Britporn
The future of Britporn
Just a thought, although we all know we are years behind everyone else when it comes to porn, what is it going to take for us to move on? to be able to compete with the likes of major U.S & Euro labels? do we need to make ours stronger like the Euro hardball & GGG stuff? or is it fine the way it is?
Re: The future of Britporn
We need it to be completely legal for starters, not hedged around with asinine restrictions.
But we're not yet allowed to be adults, and even the great US of A seems to be regressing toward childhood.......

Re: The future of Britporn
not too sure but its a guy called john thompson that makes them, most ive seen are german titles icant even pronounce but there worth getting hold of,you wont be dissapointed ican assure you
Re: The future of Britporn
I haven't seen ggg stuff, but I don't see the stronger/harder route as sustainable. Two reasons.
1. Opponents of porn cite the 'slippery slope' argument, looking at Page 3 leads to an addiction to hardcore which ends in terminal paedophilia. This argument would be supported if the industry can only satisfy demand by getting harder and harder.
2. Where do you stop? At present Britporn could get a little harder, but how hard before middle of the road buyers get uncomfortable? before performers are physically hurt?
Probably not very long. And then where do you go?
The Brits make top gonzo. We make world class television with imagination. We make (although we don't finance) some of the best films with Brit actors and directors. Any clues here?

Re: The future of Britporn
It will probably always be as disorganised and unreliable as it has always been. Yes it took us 15 years to get hard-core back in thanks to Sheptonhursts money and Primetimes courage. But will it change for the better. I doubt it. The theory was that in August 2000 when the court ruling was passed against the BBFC that productions would start left right and centre. And some serious money would be put in by companies looking to a new market. WRONG the reality is it is all new product here so lets just import 25 years worth of American movies and sell them. The restrictions on where these products are sold haven't changed. i.e licenced sex shops. So still in the dirty mack brigrade there. I can't see it chaning at all to be honest. To the best of my knowledge not one American distributor has thought about this U.K market and invested in selling here and certainly none are interested in productions here. Larry Flynt enquired about opening 10 of his Sunset Strip style sex shops in all the major U.K towns and guess what the answer was. So it might be allowed in now easier but it's still very much under big brothers control.
Re: The future of Britporn
What will it take to bring UK porn up to the levels of the US and Europe?
Simple.
1. Legalise hardcore for sale virtually *anywhere*, including mail order.
2. Remove distribution (which would follow 1) from the hands of one man/company who pay producers of adult material about 5 quid per tape. And I think we all know who that is.
3. The knock on effect will then be more money returning to the production team, which in turn will mean higher profits.
4. Producers then need to choose whether to pay more for higher quality girls and locations, or squirrel the profits away.
5. If the business heads prevail, we'll have a healthy, profitable porn industry that attracts good looking girls and has higher production values than those of today.
Let's face it, if Phil, Marcus, One Eyed Jack and the like were really given their head and a decent budget to produce fuck films, would they really still choose to shoot in an old camper van or a bedroom? I hope not.
What we have now is cheap and cheerful porn, produced on a relative shoestring and featuring the same girls, none of whom truly rival their Yank counterparts for looks. And let's be honest here, while a lot of our girls can outperform the American babes, some of them are less than gorgeous, and the good lookers tend to jump on planes as quickly as they can.
Until this becomes a 'proper' business, it's always going to attract low-rent budget producers, get rich quick merchants and scam artists, and they damage the entire industry.
It's high time someone stood up and said: Just because you own a digital camera or a DV cam, you are not a photographer or director!

Re: The future of Britporn
A serious thought.
Does anyone have any idea how big the UK porn market is?
I would be very interested to know how many porn films are actually bought in the UK, how many of these are brit films and how many brit films (by this I mean Brit actors and locations) are sold worldwide?
The earlier thread on Lock Stock 2 is an interesting case.
UK/European locations, Brit performers, US Studio/finance.
