Dear Toybox,
I accept that I've not put Jeremy Kyle on the initial post as in previous experience, everyone run's scared of meany Mr Kyle however, on first contact I do inform people. I also inform them that the programmes I make are completely different from the normal programme's shown at 09.25 on ITV one.
I work for the Special Projects Team which makes 5 one hour special?s per year. The programmes are markedly different in tone and style to the traditional Jeremy Kyle you see on ITV1 at 9.25 in the morning. These programmes deal with controversial or sensitive subject matter, they are filmed in a documentary style and filming takes place outside the studio.
I appreciate concerns regarding Mr Kyles confrontational style but, if you've got nothing to hide then you've nothing to be scared of yes?
All the best,
Vickie
ITV - GETTING INTO PORN DOCUMENTARY
Re: ITV - GETTING INTO PORN DOCUMENTARY
Dear JimSlip,
I'm aware of the issue of Kyles confrontational style and understand your concerns. I will mention that I work for the Special Projects team who make 5 1 hour doc's per year and not on the conflict resolution show which you see at 9.25 in the morning. I suppose it's in the hands of the Gods though.
I will say we've had an overwhelming response from pro and anti stances but, the lions share have been anti but believe me, we're trying to find strong characters working in the industry. We would welcome the chance to speak to actors/actresses who are willing to speak frankly about how they, contrary to popular opinion, enjoy their job, haven't been manipulated or exploited and it hasn't had a negative effect on them etc. etc.
From a research point of view, let's try a different tack...
Could you tell me about the pro's of being in porn and why, in general, people get into it and stay in it. Is it the sex, money, fame, lifestyle? Do you enjoy it? Does everyone you know who works in porn enjoy it? If so, then this is an element which would provide a powerful argument for the industry and prove contrary to general opinion.
On the other hand, what are the dangers of working in Porn? The common theme's seem to be risks to your health, dodgy agents, the pressure to do thing's you may not have been comfortable with etc. How do you guard against them to maintain a happy work life? What would you say to common criticisms of the industry such as it's exploitative and manipulative nature?
No worries if you don't want to engage in discussion. I'd just like to get a proper understanding of the industry. After all, I am a researcher eh?
All the best,
Vickie

Re: ITV - GETTING INTO PORN DOCUMENTARY
Oh no not another getting into porn documentary.I think people just see this as a cynical ploy to legitimise showing some t & a...Not sure where the balanced view point comes in. Its just porn innit????How do you show porn in a positive light? Its not like modellingfor Littlewoods catlogue is it?Porn was meant to upset and outrage society. thats why people buy it. Its their dirty little secret hidden under the bed that doesnt answer back when you pull it out for a wank. Im sure ITV will find some young entrepreneurial upstart who shoots pov blowjobs on his mobile phone to state what its like getting into porn.Ok that was mean. Good luck anyway. Let us know when its on the goggle box. Be nice to know what its like for girls getting into porn. Always been a mystery to me that one.
Dear One Eyed Jack,
EDUCATE ME THEN!
THe question you posed; "How do you show Porn in a positive light? It's not like modelling for Littlewoods catalogue is it?" raises some interesting points.
Don't get me wrong, I've got my own ideas on how to go about this (which is a good job really) but I'd be very interested in how you would approach making a balanced programme about the adult industry? Who would you include? What do you think is normally missed out or misrepresented? Who are the best people to speak to? What are the pitfall's? Where have other documentaries on the issue gone fatally wrong? Why do they all end up being skewed to the anti-porn stance?
No worries if you're not willing to talk about it but, I'm genuinely interested in speaking to people for research purposes.
All the best,
Vickie

Done. What's your number?
Only kidding. Sorry Bicycle Bum but I don't think our budget quite stretches that far. However, if you change your mind and want to contribute for considerably less then you know where I am.
If you're telling me there's no downside to working in the industry then I'd be even more interested in speaking to you even if it's just for a quick 100% confidential chat.
We don't know unless people talk.
All the best mate,

Dear Danielson,
I?d just like to point out that my previous silence on this forum was due to a technical error that I?ve now rectified and am replying to the many posts on this forum. Also, for you information I am a female.
It is not in relation to some perceived fear instilled in me from reading the overwhelmingly negative response on this forum. I'd like to point out that I feel it is entirely within the rights of forum members to especially as I'm kind of invading your turf. It's also entirely justified for members to criticise
not least due to people being ill treated by the media particularly in relation to the topic of pornography.
Anyway, by 'TV BURB' I assume you?re talking about ?TV Burp? presented by the illustrious Harry Hill? Otherwise you?ll be talking about a collaborative research wiki project focusing on the urbanization of China?
Either way, I?ve never worked on TV Burp or TV Burb so I?m not sure whether I?d be any good at it. What would be an interesting programme would be a porn version of TV Burps. Imagine?..
Anyway, you have the right to your opinion and the right to tell me to eff off so thanks for the comments.
You know where to reach me if you do a U Turn.
All the best,
Vickie

Re: ITV - GETTING INTO PORN DOCUMENTARY
Dear Ugly Daz,
It's a long shot but 'd appreciate the opportunity to answer some of your criticisms in person if you'd have a quick chat with me?
As aforementioned, I've got my own ideas but maybe you could offer some advice on how we should make the doc? who should be involved? What should it show? What are the other doc's missing and where do they go wrong? How would you like to see the industry portrayed? And I mean a mirror image, not pro or anti?
All this 'family channel' stuff you speak of, do you mean channel's that aren't Porn orientated or something related to PSB remit?
Also, yes, of course as a broadcaster, we do have to guard against being seen to be enticing the nations daughter's into Porn (I can see it now, Kyle facilitates Porn Career) however, this does not preclude us airing pro-porn stances or being objective or making the point that maybe if the person makes an informed, porn savvy choice to enter the industry and they enjoy working in it then why should anyone take offence to that aside from personal morality. Who knows what's best for the individual apart from they themselves?
Many of the posts on this site seem to be suggesting there is no downside to the industry. Now, everything has it's up's and down's so that's just not true so, educate me.
I totally understand if you don't reply but, I'm genuinely interested and would welcome your feedback.

Vickie

You claim to be a senior researcher Vickie.
Why didn't you do some research on this forum to understand why your appeal for help is getting such a hard time?

Re: ITV - GETTING INTO PORN DOCUMENTARY
I personaly have very little faith in this documentry and have already stated why, plus regardless of what you intend or indeed will actually produce Im sure it have become clear to you that we as as an indusrty have been hurt enough and unless as David suggested a documentry was run from within the industry no big name models or producers will take part.
However as a researcher who has recognised this fact I do not see why if you set up a new post asking some simple questions you would not get an honest response from people who are in a position to know.
Also one last point as all those who work in the industry want to protect it from outside mockery (which is what these shows have all come down to in past) do you not think this explains why only people you are able to talk to are bitter ex porn stars?
