We went +R and recommend Pinacle systems, we test for them and the latest stuff is bang on and could even be used in a lap-top. I have spent a lot of time on getting this right and we are now autoring and suppling finished DVD's boxed all artwork etc at ?2.00 min order is 500. My pressing house in Far east masters happily from +R.

I can recommend the Phillips DVDR880 model. It is a stand alone domestic DVD recorder. It uses DVD+R and DVD+RW. These formats work on virtually all other DVD players. Very easy to use and high quality. Costs around ?400. I have had one for a month or so and love it.

DVD-R and DVD-RAM do not work on many other players.

Never pay the PC world prices for blank DVD's - appalling.

Try www.mediaatlantic.com or similar and pay about ?1.40 or less for DVD+R discs. Fine for transferring and archiving old videos.

Hope that helps.

For what it's worth, Sony have just launched a PC drive that supports all the standards (very clever). From what I understand a stand-alone product will follow shortly.

Kev - Needs a smart arse little tag.
