Anyone who is anyone in the UK adult industry sit up and pay attention!
"yesterday saw the launch of a parliamentary committee called apComms, which is going to work on developing a new communications act - one which covers the Internet for the first time"
Make of that what you will but I think this is the time to really band together, producers, webamsters, even performers (some if not most of you have sites of your own) dont leave the battle to the others and bury your head in the sand. This is designed to shaft everyone of us out of a living.

AITA is tracking this situation carefully, and is also planning another assault to try to change the DVD mail order situation. AITA is the only body which the UK government, the BBFC and the police take seriously enough to consult on legal issues. I'd urge everyone concerned with the UK legal mess to join AITA and add your support.
And you get free beer at the quarterly meetings.

Re: A call to arms for all industry players?
I totally agree.
Our new prime minister comes from a strong "prespeterian" religious background. His father was a church minister.
The first warning signs for me was the way he shelved the plans for super casinos.
The next thing - there is going to be a review of drug laws with the possible upgrading of cannabis smoking from class C up to class B.
It got me thinking that we have someone here who has a right wing (I know ironic isnt it!) religious agenda.
In the back of my mind there is a nagging worry that one of the logical targets will be porn.
We have some of the stupidest and most puritanical porn laws in the world. We are way behind the rest of Europe with this. Trust us to get a fucking Scottish religious zealot as a prime minister.
(as im from Edinburgh myself - im well qualified to say that theres nothing worse than Scottish zealots - dour dour bastards they are!)
BE AFRAID - BE VERY AFRAID!!!!!

This has nothing to do with Brown. It comes from pressure from many sources and has been planned for some time.
Some of the pressure has come from within the industry - for example, apparently certain adult TV stations have complained to the government that they can only broadcast softcore, while web businesses can sell hardcore.
The outcome of this exercise is very uncertain - we won't know for a year or two what legal changes are likely to result, and it doesn't have to be all bad for the industry. Now is the time to get involved and start lobbying.

Well said SB!
Instead of 'going to war' the industry should be trying to get involved with the discussion.
There were certain views given (albeit not here) when the nasty government looked at prostitution via Paying the Price it would be the end blah blah blah but it wasn't and for some didn't go far enough in what it could and should have done.
Only when the industry sits down and gets involved with discussions about it will it ever be listened to.
I doubt porn will ever be accepted so the industry should be looking at how it can be tolerated.

"Going to war" means posting on BGAFD doesn't it? !wink!
AITA's got a few grand in the bank to spend on legal work. The more who join, the more resources it'll have. It's only ?75 a year for a sole trader to join. And you get can that back in beer at the Xmas party.

I can assur you in my book my intention is to prote the Adult industry as a professional industry to be taken seriously and for people to relise that they should take notice of how much stuff they can learn from the industry, from the health aspects and of course the fun aspect of things.

!wink! how very true lol
Before any legal work is done however I'd strongly recommend that AITA writes to the group asking for its remit.
Then asks to meet with the group to enable The new apComms group to have a discussion "between the communications industry (adult entertainment industry if remit suggests it should) and Parliamentarians for the mutual benefit of both parties".

Re: A call to arms for all industry players?
You make a very valid comment Warren. I guess I never thought of the average consumer because in one form or another this industry has been attacked buy sorties of so called self righteous do gooders and politcal crusaders while that same said consumer audience just watched from the wings with an expressionless look on its face.
Lets face it I dont expect a lot of customers would show their support as it would admit to looking at porn so i reckon a good 95 % would just turn their backs anyway than show support. You just have to look within these forums to see a majority of people dont care either way. They only talk a good talk when it comes to moaning about softcore on telly but no one has actually rallied up support for that either.
I might be very cynical but I would like to be proved right. So lets have a show of hands. Starting with you Warren? Are you happy to stand up and be counted? Can we rely on your support?
If so I'll be the first to happpily say I got it wrong.
