Sounds like all you had for him was a mobile number and email addie, that should have you expecting a cancellation.

How do you get references? Find out who he has worked with before and ask those models for a reference, if that isn't possible you could always post a topic asking 'has anyone worked with so and so' then maybe if models that have either worked with him or had contact with him could get in touch with you.

An agency wouldn't send a model to a job without verifying someone so why should you accept work without verifying someone, ask for a home address and home phone number then check on 192.com and ring the number to speak to him to confirm the shoot so as you know he is actually the person that the details are for. Extra work for you but if it means less of what's happened to you today then its time well spent.

If someone is a timewaster then they'd be filtered out if you did the above.

The ref reference you can get, which should always be done as a matter of course, if ask for details of other girls he's worked with, then locate them on the internet yourself, not the details he provides, as he won't the first photographer to give out the details of one of his female friends who looks like a german shot putter called helga to play a model, so locate em yourself, and check the photographer/producer out.

IF he doesnt provide, can't provide, won't provide references, then its your call.

Sorry to hear about your timewaster. It's a sad fact that there are too many out there . I too had a shoot booked for this morning, but was cancelled 2 hrs prior. However was a guy I worked with before, and is very reliable even if an amateur.As I was showered , and doing from home thought would get hubby to do some solo stuff for my site. It just wasnt to be as my eldest daughter (15) strolled in as I was getting my gear on. Just knew it was going to be a bad day when I spilt my breakfast over the floor this morning.So like yourself have been left twiddling my thumbs. Maybe we should twiddle with each others lol. Tommorrow is another day. Lets hope its a better one.
