Buying US website & material help

Hello all, I am in talks with an adult us website based in San Francisco which I am going to purchase plus all of there material which is on svhs tapes(60 of them to be exact).

My problem is getting the tapes over to the uk from the us. I am worried about paying a lot of money then having the tapes confiscated and maybe destroyed, the owner of the website has sent dvd's to the uk before and had mixed results so I was wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this or has any knowledge of what is the best option.

I thought I could go to the us and bring the tapes back myself in my cases.


Either way seems risky considering how tight the uk and us customs are.

I wouldnt panic too much as I've come back from abroad many a time and customs knew I shot porn so there was no problem and bigger producers than me have come back with stuff and customs at best may want to see documentation to make sure everyone is over the age of consent etc but I doubt this will happen.

If you want to spped things up get the seller to copy the documents onto disc and rubber stamp them with a disclaimer in case someone tea leafs the stuff....But generall, get it fed exed or upsed over and you shouldnt have any problems....But dont quote me on that right?

I brought 3 websites this year and went to Seattle to do the deal.

Came back with a suitcase rammed full of tapes and CD's

Not sure what they would have said if we got stopped. I had all the sites copied onto my servers in a server to server transfer before i left the US.

I would make sure you get the sites copied onto your hosts as soon as your ok to do so.

Depending on your hosts and what sort of accounts you have its a straight forward process to do this.

DHL or FEDEX, easy peasy.

Be very careful if you fedex to the UK if it doesnt have a UK clasification it gets stoped and you get in the crapper for importing. Especially if theres a tonne of material the odd DVD you may get away with it.

There isnt a risk free way so you just have to take your chances.

You could have it sent to Belgium and then bring it in in smaller consignments, it is not illegal to bring porn in from other EEC countries providing its for your own personal use, 60 tapes would be over the top but get it transferred to dvd and you can get 10 hours on one disk, British customs let you through with 10 hardcore disk providing its not extreme stuff so that would give you 100 hours of material that one person can bring through.

Whats a website cost?

Not prying into your personal business to find out what you paid and obviously it'll depend on lots of things, but generally thinking if someone wanted to buy a adult paying site for a decent standard of site are we talking hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, or even more?

Just say that the cost was okay and someone wanted to invest in buying a site, what is the single most important thing that would influence the cost, is it the quality of content, quantity of content, domain name, traffic, turnover, or something else?

The figures we agreed where based in things like turnover from the sites.

I asked to see all the membership records so i could see how many members joined.

One thing to remember when you buy someone elses sites are, you now have to carry on updating the sites so make sure you/webmaster understand how the site works.

Thanks for your help guys, I have asked the guy to duplicate all the tapes onto dvd and send them via dhl or fedex, just incase something goes wrong then I could always go to pick them up from the us.
