Hi Guys
I am trying to copy from my hard drive onto a disc a windows media player film I have edited and created on Pinnacle v10. I assumed it would copy and paste straight onto a DVD+RW disc as my drive is a dual layer +/- one but it will not allow me to do that. If i try to copy to a CDR it only copies the audio.
When I create a DVD direct from Pinnacle to the DVD+RW it works. So how do I copy a windows media player video file to disc??
Help would be appreciated.
Graham

Hi Graham,
are you trying to use the DVD as a removable file device or in DVD video mode?
Ian.

As a removable file device. So I want the .wmv file that Pinnacle created on a backup disc.
If I transfer straight from Pinnacle to the DVD disc as a DVD it works but as a .wmv copied from a directory on my c: after it has been created it doesnt wanna know!

Re: Technical Problem DVD+RW
Sorry in advance if I'm telling you what you already know
Personally, I have little confidence in DVDs of any flavour
as a back-up medium. I've had nowt but trouble with them!
Have you pre-formatted the DRD+RW, are you re-using an old one?
Are you getting any system messages?

Re: Technical Problem DVD+RW
Its always difficult to burn wmv to DVD disk as it wasmt designed for it wmv is mainy for playback on a computer but it should burn to CD disk ok so if your having problems there i should try another CD disk to record to.
Re: Technical Problem DVD+RW
The DVD will need to be burnt as a data-disc.
If you simply want to drag and drop (like you would with a second hdd) then you need something like InCD from Nero.

Should I just not be able to drap & drop/copy & paste straight to a CDR or RW? If I do that it seems only to copy the audio from the film. Or do I need nero for this also??

Re: Technical Problem DVD+RW
You need to user Nero or similar to encapsulate the wmv file in an iso image and burn the iso image. This will give you a removable data disk with the wmv on it as if it were on a hard disk, CD or floppy as opposed to a playable DVD.
If you use a new DVD+RW, a formatting process preceeds the burn.
I have never successfully re-used a DVD+RW... I've given up on them!!!
Cheers,
Ian.

Re: Technical Problem DVD+RW
Ok thanks for the advice. Do you know of a downloadable piece of software which will do the job??
Re: Technical Problem DVD+RW
Windows XP's built in burning engine only supports CD thats why.
To burn your file to any type of DVD you need a proper burning program like Nero. Pinnacle will only let you burn DVD-Video format, not individual files.
I've been using Nero and DVD+RW discs for a few years now. In fact one of my DVD+RW discs is 3 years old and I use it at least weekly and its still working without a problem. Thats a memorex one.
