IPTV great But !!! what legislation will they throw at it to stop it's hardcore transmission into UK homes or hold it to softcore as per TV now. What discussions have taken place on censorship.

If they censor IPTV, they'll have to censor the Internet. Bit tricky I'd have thought...

DRM is nonesense anyway. You only need one person to be able to play it ONCE and output through the VIDEO OUT connection on any decent graphics card linked to a VCR or home DVD recorder, and thats enough to feed thousands of pirates.

Apparently thats just what they are about to do.
Offna Commonsense are being lubed for their new role which will include the british governments attempt to censor UK web sites or UK subscriptions to adult web sites and transmissions starting late 2006 with full effect by 2010. BT who are being aclaimed as the heros of IPTV are a stout anti porn company who will take all the money from porn but report porn barrons to the appropriate people at the first chance. It will be impossible for anyone to police the net but they can and will target the big boys or those seeking to make money at it.

I'm on eof those die hard enthusiasts (call me boring if you like) that doesnt mind paying 7 to 10 pounds seeing a big movie in the local Multiplex or in the West End. When it comes to main stream movies< I want to own my fave on DVD.

IPTV in theory sounds great but as from my understanding of it so far, its just a high def version of a ppv download...Does it come with 5.1 surround sound and dvd extras?

The start up costs are very high. The way I see it, if you fork out this amount of money, you are effectively losing money if you don't earn it through people owning the additional hardware to access it.

It would be truly a sad day if I couldnt own my favourite movies all boxed up with a nice cover, double disc box sets sitting proudly with all my many other favourite discs.

Lets face it, nothing is ever pirate proof for too long. I wouldn tmind being proved wrong though.

Its even easier than that with Ulead releasing an Mpeg live feed that allows anything viewed from your graphics card to be copied as an mpeg to a folder in your media av area.

I saw an episode of News Night where Charlie Kennedy expressed interest for internet censorship using the services of Off Com. Then a week later it was a question on Question Time and just about every member of the panel inc Mrs Mcartney agreed the best office of control was Off Com as setting up a new office would take about 10 years. After the show the normal on line chat took place where one of the producers stated that by 2010 the internet had to be strictly monitored by Off Com and he felt there would be strong moves by 2006 to get things moving.
Then if you cast your mind back 2 weeks you will recal our PM being asked by a reporter about the bombers using the internet as a source of activation and the sittuation that no office officialy monitors the net his reply was its about to be brought under the broadcast act and be restricted by the similar laws as the broadcasters.
