Could well be... *** BREAKING NEWS ***
Re: Could well be... *** BREAKING NEWS ***
This is seriously bad news for us hoping to see R18 on Sky. I cannot understand how I could get on Eurostar, go to another civilised, first world country and watch porn but our lovely nanny state tells me I can't see the same stuff back home. I fear the worst.

Don't forget UK Judges predominantly come from one of two backgrounds (allegedly):
1. Never seen a porn movie in their lives, are a member of a gentlemen's only club, have friends who like to shoot animals, don't know what most common usage words mean, are usually of a religious persuasion and think sex is for procreation only and regard ordinary people as riff-raff: this type is shocked beyond belief and shudders at the thought of a nipple on display
2. Got sexually abused at Eton, had flirtations with nice young men at Oxford, wears women's underwear, believes himself and his 'friends' are above the law but the general population needs controlling, always keeps oranges and rope in the house, has a secret apartment in Paris, has a huge stash of undesirable porn: this type bans it to let the public believe he has some morals
Both are evil at heart and long for the good old days when nanny used to tuck them in and touch their willy ... and they maybe still dress as a baby in their spare time and have a stern young lady come round to thrash them, that keeps them pure.
The UK judiciary, you get as fair a hearing as you would in North Korea.

This decision only covers mail/Internet order. It's still likely that Sky will soon be allowed to broadcast R18 material... not because the government has decided to be nice, but because (Tony's buddy) Rupert Murdoch is keen for this change to take place.
With broadcast allowed on Sky but mail order being banned, this will have a bad effect on the UK industry - the big boys will be able to take over much of the retail, with local distributors being unable to compete.

Re: Could well be... *** BREAKING NEWS ***
Britain's production industry has to start to see itself in a global context.
Sure, it suffers from a ridiculous legal situation in selling to the home market, but outside the UK there is a fast-expanding world market, and, more importantly, legitimate status.
The question is, can British producers subordinate their competitive natures, and co-operate over this (mail order/Internet sales) ? Distribution, through a single overseas-based company funded by, and jointly-owned by, British producers seems like a worthwhile and achievable goal.
Both of the distributors involved in this case were angling for a far different result than "more freedom", "common sense", or "an end to hypocrisy". They have shop licences to protect and therefore fear a free-for-all if mail-order distribution was openly declared legal.
Producers have different interests than distributors and licensed retailers. The repeated cries on these boards that making money is getting harder are probably accurate.
So, putting faith in broadband or IPTV does not deal with the producers' immediate problems - how to legitimately sell more DVDs to UK consumers other than through licensed shops, and how to make Britporn as popular as Britpop with European distributors and consumers (I suggest humour, irony, originality, and high production values).

far be it from me to appear a bit numb but does this mean a definite 'no' to any mail order porn regardless where it has come from or just those sourced in th uk?
Re: Could well be... *** BREAKING NEWS ***
I honestly can't see how you can read all these posts about this case and then say Sky will be able to show R18.
R18 on TV is, in my humble opinion, at least 20 years away! If ever
Not that is fair or correct, just that this is Britain and its they things are.

If you've never sourced from the UK and never intend to, nothing has changed ... business as normal. Any law that can be so easily side-stepped may as well not be there, If you do source from the UK, there is absolutely no offence committed as a consumer/purchaser, any offence is in the supply.
