No butter, no horrifically destructive relationship, and no
massively overrated leading man.
There was no focusing on cutesy-poo daubs in the original,

I had just scanned through the movie, noticed your post, and took note of those two errors. I just wanted to set the record straight.
You do a well enough job for the female performers you don't need to go crazy over the males.

One would have expected that considering the title and the fact the film is set in Paris that it be some type of rip off from LAST TANGO IN PARIS. Nothing of the sort, Private just plundered the movie title just to arouse interest in its own "rendition".
Even more silly is the painter costume worn by Philippe Dean throughout the movie (something out of the 18th century). I could just imagine the reaction(s) of the passers-by when Kovi was shooting Dean in that costume in the streets of Paris. Ahhhh to have been there.....

I think Bertolucci's blatantly gender-biased wish-fulfillment [however artily dressed
as a depressingly bleak comment on human nature and sexuality] would have been too
much even for the robots at Private : -)

And I totaly agreed with one film critic at the time of the film release that the story line basically dealt with the extreme difficulty of finding an apartment in Paris. That's how it is best viewed, and forget about silly posturings between Brando and Schneider. If it were not for film critics, we would be lost and confused about existential things that the film director was trying to confuse us with.
