I can only say that in my neck of the woods 'pussy' was the most-used
term from the early 70s on, with the derivatives pussy-hair, pussy-lips, etc.

JJ, I know the trade magazines of that era had to be careful of the language they used. I did indicate they used the word "penis". They also referred to DP as "sandwich", gang-bangs as "group sex", and even "anal sex" as "exotic sex".
