Scotland did not vote to remain in the EU.
Scotland did not vote in the referendum.
The United Kingdom voted in the referendum.
Scotland did not vote to remain in the EU
Re: Scotland did not vote to remain in the EU
True but that doesn't stop them going through every possible way of getting what they want. The ambiguity in the law is such that it could easily end up at the highest court to decide and that is in Europe. We are still fully paid up members as the vote was only advisory and not mandatory.

Re: Scotland did not vote to remain in the EU
There's no getting away from the fact that the result in Scotland was 2.68 million people voted in the referendum. Of those 2.68 million votes 62% voted to remain in the EU, 38% voted to leave.
The way it's going you will soon be able to say the FORMER United Kingdom voted in the referendum.

Re: Scotland did not vote to remain in the EU
Didn't you post a map the other day with a big chunk of the United Kingdom missing from it?
Re: Scotland did not vote to remain in the EU
If Scotland want to got-it-alone fine. I never understood why there was so much effort put into campaigning against this two years ago.
What I don't understand is how they can balance their accounts. I read somewhere recently that Scotland costs each English ( and Welsh and Northern Irish ? ) taxpayer on average ?72 per year.

Pound at it's lowest level against the pound since 1985. It's not only Scotland are going to need how they are going to balance the books.

Going off topic but
Get our 2 million unemployed into work so not a burden on working individuals and UK businesses.
e.g.
One news item today was it will soon be more difficult to recruit foreign nurses and midwives.
Solution:- start training some of our unemployed PDQ instead of 'poaching'
Become self sufficient in pork, beef, chicken etc. ASAP
Much of the pork we eat is imported and lots of the poultry products in Iceland are birds reared in then processed in Poland.
Produce most of all types of vehicles as 50 years ago instead of importing the majority. This alone would require a significant volume of many types of steel.

Re: Scotland did not vote to remain in the EU
Funny how one of the arguments we used to persuade Scotland to stay as part of the UK was that they would have to apply to become a member of the EU just like any other country. Now the referendum has voted them out in theory.
Same will still stand if the SNP succeed in going it alone.
I hope they get their veto. British politics has crumbled, and good riddance ... Only trouble is there is no one up to the job of fixing this mess
