Because it influences subsequent decisions.
One of Fergusons many tactics which helped him to success.
One referee was quoted (anonymously, by another ref, Graham Poll) saying when he goes to Old Trafford he wants an early goal and a 3-0 win to avoid the ear ache.
They vlaim it doesn't influence them, but it does.

Re: football according to me
Really good post. I gave up my season ticket in 1999. I'd had one since 1983, but decided it wasn't interesting me anymore. As you say, it's the same teams competing for the league every year. Even though my team was one of them it was still boring for me. I'm currently watching them and again for the second week running we have no Englishman in the starting line up. No wonder the International side has gone backwards. We have no chance of ever winning an international tournament with the way the game is set up here. In fact I would say that the US have more chance of winning it than England. Football in this country is no longer a sport......it's business, and I can't see it ever changing.

me nose smells me a chelsea supporter. a guy i used to talk to knew this guy who moved down to basingstoke who used to be a diehard chelsea man, but got lost in the shuffle when all the gloryhunters started to come in. now he wears a shirt that says "i supported chelsea when they were sh*t". i found that funny.
but yeah, the game has gone all business, but i don't think you english realise how lucky you are to have football. here in america, sports is all about business, all about market size, profit shares, sponsorship, merchandising, soul new stadiums with fans to match. i am a diehard kansas city chiefs fan in the NFL, but i don't watch as much because since the media gods have told me my team is in a "small market", we won't have as much of a chance to win a championship like a so called big market team like new york, new england and dallas. the lower leagues are the heart and soul of the english game. i'd find you'd get more out of a going to a cray wanderers match than if you went to a chelsea match. may not have the big match atmosphere that chelsea has, but those few hundred at that match give a damn about their club, however small they may be.
and heaven forbid the americans winning the world cup, that's the last thing i'd want as a american. a world cup win would not be appreciated here in the states, it would be a fashion statment, it would treated as nothing more than a prop. americans don't care about football, they desparage it enough by calling it "soccer". if football is the beautiful game, calling it "soccer" is like calling your misses a slag. i always root against the americans because the world cup is a trophy that should go to a country that would enjoy it and give it the proper attention and respect it deserves. america has enough sports they can claim to be world champs in a one country championship. lord knows they've won the most war mongering championship than any other country.
i view the premier league like a country club, they only take name clubs and you got to have the money to be admitted, otherwise, you won't be their long because you won't be able to afford keeping up with the joneses. i perfer the championship and as a birmingham city supporter, i hope we stay in the championship for the time being. it's a better league, anybody has a chance to win there and it's totally unpredictible. who would have guessed bournemouth would challange for the second division title??? granted, there promotion will hurt them because there's no way they can make it in the prem, thus the chant "we'll see you in two years" comes to mind.
i enjoy watching football, i enjoy watching rugby. it's better than what we have here in the states, the fans here have no passion, have no spirit and would'nt fight for their team or their city. americans are quite soulless at everything except religion, firearms, war and thinking the world should follow them. at least the english have proper taste, passion and fire in their guts to fight for where they come from. i respect the english for that, as i respect all of europe for showing everybody how it's done when it comes to supporting your club.

Re: football according to me
Sorry to disappoint but i'm an Arsenal fan. As I said I watched them from 83-99. Experienced many highs and lows, which is what following a team is all about. I wasn't too disappointed when Brum won the League cup a few years as I've seen Arsenal win almost everything, so it's nice for the smaller clubs to have their day in the sun.
Re: football according to me
Dissilusioned football fans should go and watch some non-league football to get the spark back.
Depending on where you live, find your local side in the Northern Premier/Southern/Isthmian league, (about as low as you want to go before getting into pub football, but the players all get paid to play) and give that a try. Thats where 'the love of the game' still exists.

Re: football according to me
I remember when Aberdeen won the cup winners cup I went out and got absolutely drunk. I was flying offshore the next morning with a very early check in.I got to the heliport and I've never seen so many ill looking men.
Re: football according to me
I was 11 at the time and on a week long school trip. There was a communal room with a tv. I sat in there and watched the game aware that we had to be in our rooms by 9pm, lights out at 9.30 pm. I was the only kid in there watching it, keeping quiet until my teacher told me to go to my room. I think because I was football mad he never said anything and let me stay up and watch it till the end, I think it even went to extra time. When I eventually went to my room all the other kids were asleep. Aberdeen have been my favourite Scottish team ever since.

Re: football according to me
i enjoy reading these football stories. they are quite interesting. the only story i've gotten don't compare to all of you'res. in 2011, birmingham won the league cup, so i celebrated that on that sunday and was the happiest. three days later my dog died, me and my mom believe our neighbors poisoned her because they moved the next day. goes to show you the luck of us bluenoses. by the way, my scottish team is hibernian, but i've always respected aberdeen and would like them (or almost any other team for that matter) to win the scottish flag. sick of the old firm winning it all the time.
KRO everybody.

Re: football according to me
i'm bored, so since one eyed jack has a life and i don't (that's a joke everybody), i'm going to talk about football some more.
people might want to know who i believe is going to be the next manchester city manager. my belief is it's going to be pep guardiola. man city has more money that bayern munich, the munich job does'nt really have much challange to it consittering the bundesliga is becoming the bayern munich show (which is sad consittering i believe it's still the best league in the world) and i believe pep could bring some pep back to man city as a title contender.
which brings me to another thing, i got a valid question to ask, how come frank rijkaard don't get no ringups as a manager in england??? frank rijkaard is a excellent manager, he stresses playing attack minded football, he's a former two time la liga champion as a manager and former champions league winning manager and it baffles me how rijkaard don't get any ringups at top clubs. a club like everton would be the perfect place for a guy like rijkaard since they are looking to take that step up into regular european contender and roberto martinez is just not the right man for that position. everton has alot of talent with guys like lukaku, mcgeady, mccarthy, mirrales and the like. under rijkaard, guys like that would be encouraged to take more chances and play the ball foward more.
lastly, i'm following the championship (as i do every season as i perfer the championship over the premier league) and as far as the promotion race goes, i'm hoping ipswich and norwich go up together. listen, you can't have one without the other. the old farm derby is among the best derbies in all of english (if not world) football. it's been since 1994-95 we've had a top flight east anglian derby. derbies are the heart and soul of football and if one goes up without the other, it just won't feel right and won't be as interesting. if bournemouth go up, they have southamption to derby with, which while it don't have the history of a old farm derby or any of the famous derbies in england, it could develop into a good derby with time. that's what the top flight really lacks, is really good derbies. i know some people will point out the merseyside, the manchester, north london, the big two london derby and the tyne-wear derbies. but merseyside don't feel like a derby to me because they are friendly towards one another. manchester is a hyped up corporate derby. the north london derby just don't do it for me as a derby. it might sound rash, but it's too regular. the tyne-wear derby is the only real derby in the premier league from my vantage point with some spice to it. besides my derby with villa (which i call the A B Row Derby because i'm one of those bluenoses who believes aston is not part of birmingham city proper), i like watching the black country, the steel city, the west yorkshire (bradford-leeds), the potteries, the bristol, the tyne-wear and the essex derbies.
thanks for reading all, cheers and KRO everybody.
