And a lot get found out when they try to sing live. Studio technology flatters so many singers.

the sad thing is that most pop music is all about image and looks, the music is entirely secondary. if you have the right marketable "look" for the moment (i.e. pretty and early 20s for starters) you can be the worst singer in the world and it doesn't matter. The marketing machine will turn you into a big star and - more importantly - a brand.

A post like this is silly because it basically comes down to each person`s likes and dislikes - and no two people are going to completely agree, while each of us is fully entitled to our opinions.
At same time I would add that Arginald is confusing actors with movie stars. The whole point of being a movie star, as opposed to a character actor, is that the Movie Industry and especially Hollywood, wants that person to retain their persona on screen. Thus John Wayne was always John Wayne in every role and the same could be said of Katherine Hepburn and many others. Angelina Jolie is not required to really "act" in the sense of displaying a vast range of emotions, but to use that voice and face of hers to a repetitive effect ie most people just wanna see more of the same in a different garb. One of the few movie stars who always gets inside a role is Meryl Streep and it could be argued she is a great character actress more than a traditional movie star.
