Guns don't kill people...

Post by Sam Slater »

...people kill people...

At least that's what gun nuts and the NRA tell us who market guns for young children. Hmmm....this reminds me of something....but I digress. Here's a very good article debunking this type of thinking:

Amazingly, if you consult a left wing anti-gun website, you will find a left wing anti-gun opinion piece. Staggering. Who would have thought it?

Ahhh.......but do they have good points? That is what's important.

The Americans will never give up their guns. Why anyone even tries is beyond me.

They make arguments which are coloured by their preconceived opinions. If you accept these arguments as gospel without reading around the subject, you will be more than likely misled. If that does not bother you, then it is likely that your preconceptions match theirs, and nothing has been achieved. Simple enough, but please do not post a link to some left wing anti-gun website and think you have found some sort of objective truth, because you haven't.

In your opinion, because you are predisposed to believe them. If a jury only heard the prosecution case, how many people do you think would be found guilty?

I'm predisposed to think civilians owning guns is a bit dangerous and unnecessary. But you do know that you are just as open to the same weaknesses that I am, right?

Exactly, the article you read reinforces your prior beliefs. But that does not make it right, which is why I pull you up when you seek to present such a piece as if it is objective truth. It is part of a debate, from one side of that debate.

I didn't say the article was 'objective truth'.
