Is it racist to keep referring to this white female as "the white widow".

Most white women who have lost their black partner would not be called a 'white widow'. So the term has definite racial connotations in this instance. Samantha Lewthwaite (in some of the media's eyes) is not the norm (a white female terrorist) and a nasty piece of work.

I think this one depends on which side of the racist fence you sit.

Having thought about it a bit more it can't be racist as you can't be racist against your own race. The term 'white widow' seems to come from the Daily Mail, The Sun etc.

According to Wikipedia:

"An Islamic marriage ceremony was conducted for the couple but the ceremony had no legal status because it was not conducted in a mosque or licensed place and they were never officially registered as man and wife"

Technically if they weren't married she's not a widow.

No mosques in this country are able to perform legally recognised marriages. You have to have a register office do as well.
