ITV drops the '1'...

For some reason ITV1 has become ITV in recent days. Not sure why. They were keen to add the 1 when the other three ITV channels started, these other channels obviously still exist, but the primary channel is just called ITV now. Odd.

And they now have a DOG on screen permanently to remind you. Because people are too stupid to realise which station they're watching without it, and chaos would ensue without it to constantly reassure them they're watching ITV.

This rebrand occurred on 14 Jan.

They probably paid a PR company a fortune to come up with the idea of "drop the One" in a desperate attempt to get more viewers to stop the ever falling figures, and consequently advertising rates.

Interesting, its still odd though when you consider the reason they originally added the 1 was because of the newly created other channels: ITV2, 3, and 4. Makes you wonder why they added the 1, then later thought it wasn't needed, when those other channels still exist.

I was watching ITV 2 + 1 the other night... confused the hell out of me when, whilst channel hopping, I discovered it was completely different to ITV 3!!!

The rebrand was the idea of someone who only joined them last year, so it wasn't his "later thought".

The person who added the 1 years ago doesn't work for ITV now, so he hasn't had a "later thought" either.

I have a friend who works for ITV and he was telling me the 1 was dropped to cut costs.
The continuity announcers are paid by the hour and it is quicker to say ITV rather than ITV 1.
This was also the reason the Farm was dropped from Emmerdale years ago!

Maybe they should go for a complete rebrand for the four channels. Some suggestions: how about ITV, ITV Light, ITV Together, then ITV Us. Hmmm, it might work.
