I think newly elected MPs should have their wages cut by 25%. They could then get pay rises once they prove they are up to the job. You know like coppers.
I also think MPs should be forced into a productivity scheme.
They only get a pay rise if they take on more work. This could be by widening their constituencies, cutting then number of MPs and sharing the savings between the MPs who are left in the form of pay rises and the rest going back to the taxpayer.
What really gets me about this debate is that it's one rule for MPs and another rule for the rest of the population.

I didn't answer your question because it wasn't relevant. MPs who live 200+ miles away from Westminster don't travel to and from home 'everyday'. It can be anything from 2 or 3 times a week to once a month.
Having said that, I thought my point was obvious and implied my answer: None of my friends travel to and from work with a trip of 200+ miles 'everyday'. But none of my friends are on ?120,000pa with a generous pension.

Yes because they have second homes in London that are paid for on expenses... something that you would like to stop.

And replace with a sort of 'Halls of Residence' what are owned by the government and paid for by the taxpayer, specifically for MPs to use for the duration of their terms. I've said this already.

If the regional manager of Tesco took three months off in the summer, the store would go bust. Does anyone notice when an MP takes three months off in the summer? Life goes on.
