Scotttish labour members may prefer independence. The SNP may well lose power to Scottish labour at some point.

"Fantastic news!! England will be ruled by English MPs."

Apparently if Scotland becomes independent, there are still countries called Wales and Northern Ireland that have representatives in Westminster.

Check it out on a map, if you don't believe me!

"You might not be so sanguine, if Scottish independence leads to a one party state in the UK."

You missed the point I was making - which was......

"That's up to them."

That's how democracy works isn't it?

If we end up with a Tory government in Westminster because the Scots are no longer part of the system it will be because that's what the majority of the people left in the remainder of the UK have voted for.

I'm not looking forward to that, but I don't see that gives me the right to say to the Scot's "don't leave us because if you do we are going to end up with the Tories in permanent Government in Westminster".

I am assuming Scottish MP's will have to give up their seats in London? Some will lose thousands a month in expenses. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.
If this is done right Wales and Ulster can have a proper parliament each. Even less English hating MPs in Parliament. Then we can spend English taxes on English residents only. Happy days are here again!!

I fully understood your point.

When you say "I don't care whether Scotland gets independence or not", I merely point out that it could have a very big impact on which parties rule in Westminster for decades to come.

"I'm not looking forward to that, but I don't see that gives me the right to say to the Scot's "don't leave us because if you do we are going to end up with the Tories in permanent Government in Westminster".

WHere did I suggest that it does give you that right?

I don't think you have thought this through Argie. Half Scottish and only a few miles from the border? IF Scotland gets independence they will automatically have to apply to become a member of the EU which could take years.

I would suspect that given Scotland will be outside the EU for quite a lengthy period, Call me Dave will take advantage of this gap to get shot of the Scottish and "half-breeds" like yourself in trasports to north of the border or "New Hadrians Wall" as it will probably become, manned with guards with sub-machine guns and searchlights.

I think you could do well in Scotland Argie, with your right wing Toryism and your love of "bum chums". You would be very popular in Easterhouse!

PS Don't even think of being an asylum seeker, Argie. Call me Dave is very harsh on that kind of malarkey!

Very good points David. Personally I don't think Salmond has a hope of persuading the good people of Scotland that independence is a good idea. And yes it would be bad for us as well as them if it were to happen.

I see two MSP SNP members have quit due to the SNP saying they will remain in NATO. Must admire their principles unlike WEE ECK

But, if push came to shove what else could they do?
Take charge of the Scottish Regiments for the defence of Scotland?
They have no Air Force nor a Navy, so, they would keep the status quo surely. But, it isn't going to come to that is it?
If it was a Nationwide vote I have no doubt that the average English voter would vote for their independance and tell em to take all of the Scottish MP's from Westminster back over the border and stay there.

So Mr Salmond, you no longer have access to those English bastards AAA credit rating....ermm let me see how does 8% interest sound like to start with?
And what about all those highly profitable English companies closing down their Edinburgh and Glasgow offices as your tax rates are even less competitive than Mnsr Hollande's? No bother the Oatcake and Shortbread sales will make up for everything.
Dead in the water.
