Censoring programmes & films on TV.

Does anyone else get annoyed when watching a film or a programme on UK Gold (or ITV4, Comedy Central, etc) and the they cut something out? They beep over words or they completely cut out some joke, reference or even a whole scene? A couple of weeks ago I was watching Carry On Camping during the day on ITV3, and they cut all shots of the naturist movie that Sid James and the rest were watching in the cinema scene at the beginning. I know it was daytime, but I thought that was really petty. I would've first seen a lot of the Carry On films (and classic sitcoms like Porridge, Steptoe & Son, etc) on TV on Saturday afternoons in the eighties. I'm sure that they wern't cut then, or at least not to that degree. I think that they should either show something completly uncut (perhaps at a more appropiate time) or not show it at all. I'm not talking about stuff like Resivior Dogs, etc. I'm talking about pretty standard TV fare like old movies, sitcoms and dramas (like The Professionals and Minder). I mean, if they're worried about broadcasting something that's not 100% PC, then why even try to put the Carry On films on in the first place? The way that they censor what's shown - It's insulting!

The old stuff is cheap, (they're sometimes just paying ?1 per show/per hour) thats why its on in the daytime on ITV4. And the old stuff isn't up to todays ultra PC standards. There's an episode of Minder in which Arthur refers to not being turned over by "a couple of dopey spades". I recall the Sweeney talking about 'schwartz's' too. I suppose they have to cut all that out these days.

Anyone who watches Spartacus and Game Of Thrones will know that these shows are on the forefront of explicit sex and violence...and a damn good watch to boot

Just last night on Game Of Thrones I saw a man get a couple chops to the head and finally had it kicked off in rage because, well cutting a mans head off is no easy thing. I'm glad shows like this show that

Then Spartacus had me in gales of laughter when the sleazy bad guy gets betrayed by his pals for lands and coin and stands there in the circle and pauses for a second before saying..."You fucking bunch of cunts!"

TV is the new cinema. You need to watch the right channels to see this stuff.

Boardwalk Empire is another great show.

There is a scene in Some Mothers Do Ave when Frank and Betty move and Frank travels in the back of the removal van. He ends up in a vat of tar and clambers out to be met by a bemused Indian family, He says, "Hello, I am white brother" or something like that. The whole scene is cut in the DVD I bought but the Indian actor Babar Bhatti (from It Ain't Half Hot Mum) remains on the credits which must be puzzling if you haven't seen the original episode.

And yet they still show an episode of The Saint, in which Peter Wyngarde, (Jason King) spends the whole show 'blacked up' to play an arab role. (It's not a disguise, he's supposed to be an arab)

But won't show It Ain't Half Hot Mum in which Michael Bates blacks up not Curry And Chips in which Spike Milligan does the same...

Saw one of the worst bits of censorship on Gold the other day that totally ruined a joke.

It was in Only Fools and Horses and Del went into the pub and spoke to that cocky young kid Mickey Pearce, who is always exageratting.

Mickey said he had been taking lessons in karate and the day before five guys had attacked him and he had fought them off.

Del started sniffing the air and said "what that I can smell sheep, horses...."

Next thing the scene was cut and the audience were roaring with laughter.

I assume Del has said something like "no its Bull shit" but they totally cut it out.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I'm talking about - The TV companies are treating us like children!

One eyed jack, you make a good point, but I don't really want to see a bloke get his head cut off. I just wan't to see classic shows uncut without having to buy all of them on DVD (whitch still could be censored, as Essex Lad points out). Each to their own though....
