They have the message - but will they act

So two crucial messages have got to parliament

1. The main parties offer little choice


2. The coalition must focus on the issues that matter to voters


Of course getting the message is one thing, act on them is another ...........

They won't listen and they won't change. They will throw a tiny sop - perhaps forgetting their obsession with Lords reform or gay marriage - but will continue as they have done. And thanks to the stupid Fixed Terms Act last year, they can't call an election until 2015...

Every time the ruling party gets a mid-term drubbing, the PM sure as night follows day goes on TV and makes a statement to the effect that "we have got the message, we understand voters' concerns and will do better". And Cameron said it again yesterday.

But nothing ever changes, they still carry on as before. It's all just hot air.

And as for Milliband, he seems unable to grasp that only about 30% of voters could be arsed turning out for the local elections, and only 38% of that 30% voted Labour. Hardly a ringing endorsement of his party but very indicative of massive voter disillusionment with the current system and all 3 main parties.

No they will not act, at least not in the way the electorate wants them to. Even in defeat Westminster parties try to spin themselves away from the electorate's concerns. Cameron is now trying to pretend it's all about three issues, the economy, homo sexual marriage and HOL reform.

He tries to ignore all the u-turns, broken promises and contempt for the electorate's expressed wish for a referendum on membership of the EU. I have a funny feeling that the voters will not forget the betrayals so easily.

Cameron is exactly as Obama reportedly described him - "Lightweight!".

We already know that Cameron won't change.

What the council results show is:

1. The electorate know that we are not all in this together.

Will the Tory led government change its plan to give the rich a tax cut? No.

2. The electorate believe that the Tory led government economic plan has not worked in the 2 years they have been trying it - unemployment up, growth flatlining, borrowing up to pay more unemployment benefit.

Will the Tory led government change that plan? No, because to do so would more or less be an admission of total incompetence.

They will stagger on.

Of course they won't act for the 'common' man. They represent rich people to put in force exactly what rich people want - and that is simply to make poor people pay for their lifestyles.
