On a fancy, I thought I'd try a 58mm lens diffuser filter left over from 35mm film days. At first glance it seems more pleasing than Gaussian blur, or surface blur.
Apart from conversion from RAW, the image has only had USM, and some work under the eyes.

I think it would be hard to take a bad photo of her, filter or no filter.
