The illiterate Harry Rednapp...

Post by max_tranmere »

Harry claimed today that he is not on top of his financial affairs because he can only write as well as a two year old, and can not spell. Does this sound believable? It doesn't to me. He claims he never understood where all his money went but, rather bizarelly, he does seem to understand that he "pays his accountant a fortune".

I was talking to someone I know recently who is a big football fan. He said that literacy levels among footballers are quite high these days compared to a generation ago. Previously literacy levels were apparently very low indeed - many footballers could barely write their own names - but I still can't believe what Harry Rednapp says, mainly on account of him running a large club and holding executive positions and so on.

He had his son Jamie with him today, and it must have been hard for Jamie to hear his dad say what he said.

I can believe it. Football clubs tend to mollycoddle their players so that they don't have any external factors affecting them, so they can concentrate 100% on the game.

It's not unusual for the club to take care of ensuring the players utility bills are paid, passport renewal is taken care of, MOT, tax disc, etc. all sorted by someone else.

I'm led to believe Man Ure has a team of handymen on call 24/7 to sort out anything bothering the players, a dripping tap, changing the time on the microwave when the clocks go back, all done for you.

I can believe it is possible for him to know nothing more than 'someone else' has taken care of his money for him, too.

(Not saying I believe him, just that it has legs)

We have need of you again, great king.

Not very convincing

"Harry claimed today that he is not on top of his financial affairs because he can only write as well as a two year old, and can not spell. "

Well he was on top of his financial affairs sufficiently to fly to Monaco by himself to meet the HSBC bank manager there to open an account into which ?180K of bungs landed.

You don't need to be up on financial affairs to wonder "Why am I having to fly to Monaco to open a bank account when I can do that round the corner from the Portsmouth ground?"

Not the most convincing explanation. It's on a par with the "I found the stolen hi fi system in the street and was planning to take it to the station tomorrow." Know wadda mean, Arry?

As recently as a cple of weeks ago Harry was well up to speed with Demba Ba's buy out clause. He's nowhere near as daft as he'd have you believe.

He's just trying to disarm people in the same way that George Bush and Boris Johnson have employed the same tactic ... act a bit thick.

Harry reckons he can't spell, writes like a two year old, can't use a computer, has never sent an email, never sent a fax, and never written a letter. He sounds more like a mafia don. Still, it's possible that if he can convince the jury he is as disorganised as he claims, he might beat the rap. Mind you, I don't think Milan Mandaric can use the same defence.

I met many a Gunner who was barely literate but when it came to dosh, by fuck they could teach us REME clever clogs a thing or two. The same with Infantry soldiers when shooting for their pay. They were all fucking marksmen and got the supplement to their pay. I was a marksman but because I got trade pay I didn't get marksman pay. Fucking MOD have always been cheapskates and today they haven't changed one iota.
