Remakes/ Reboots et al

Since remakes of old movies are coming in for a bashing (and deservedly so) I htink we should take some time to point out the remakes and reboots that were BETTER than the original

Heres a few I can think of

Spider Man for me all three of Sam Raimis rendition of the webslinger has been the best by far but the reboot looks promising too



Scarface, hated by many when it came out but elevated to cult status over the years and had a whopping great premiere to celebrate its forthcoming Blu Ray release. This movie is still relevant today as it was an iconic movie of its era

Cape Fear...I have both the original and the remake and think the remake reflects the cinematic needs of the audience of today but the original had a sentimanetal way of telling the story that I still enjoy when watching old movies

I'm not against remakes but as long as there is an intelligent spin on the original and it looks and feels better then Im ok. I just dont understand a remake when it turns out crapper than the original

Another post on here was banging on about the Thing remake. Well the much applauded John Carpenters version was a remake from a terrible original in the first place.

We can expect more remakes in the future and one to be made by my idol Clint Eastwood with Beyonce for a Star Is Born....Hmmm But I love Clints movies and have a lot of faith he will do well with this

I disagree.

The 1952 version was of it's time. I though the story-telling in the 1952 version was excellent.

It kept up the tension by not letting you see the monster, just hear it screaming outside the cabin where the heroes were hold-up.

When you actually saw it that was pretty pathetic but that was early 1950's special effects before CGI etc.

I admit the John Carpenter version was better, but the 1952 version was pretty good for what it was.

I think the best remake ever is Hitchcock's remake of his own movie "The Man Who Knew Too Much" the 1956 remake is much classier, smoother & better performances and script than the original 1934 version directed by the "Master of Suspense" himself.

Another great remake is also "The Beat That My Heart Skipped" by Jacques Audiard which is a remake of the film "Fingers" directed by James Toback & starring Harvey Keitel

Also while not better in my opinion than the Akira Kurosawa originals the films "A Fistful of Dollars", "The Magnificent Seven" and "The Outrage" which were remakes of "Yojimbo" "The Seven Samurai" and "Rashomon" respectively were all pretty good!

Spiderman is going to suck flaccid aids ridden donkey dick. Spiderman meets twillight for little girls. Just remember if your boyfriends pink and sparkles then he`s a homo not a vampire.
Superman might be decent but it`d be impossible to do worse than the last one.
Star trek was excellent.

I saw the remake of True Grit flying back from Canada last month and I thought it was fucking awful. John Wayne takes a lot of beating I think.

You probably know something I dont know about it but I wouldnt be so presumptious as I really like the Sam Raimi/ Tobey Maguire trilogy

I thought the Cohen Brothers remake or version of True Grit was brilliant but then there isnt much from the brothers I could fault since I discovered there first effort "Blood Simple" many years ago

Cant say I'm a fan of John Wayne. I preferred Clint Eastwood s Man With No Name Spaghetti Westerns over John Wayne and preferred him even more with Unforgiven

The only reason there is a new Spidey coming out is to prevent Marvel regaining the movie license (I know. Its Hollywood. Same thing for Ghost Rider) and then, Marvel putting out their own Spidey movie and then adding him to The Avengers.

Loved the first two Spideys. Number 3 not a lot. Mostly because Raimi was forced to have Venom in the film.

New Spidey might be ok though. My mate hated Tobey McGuire. I didn't mind him.

New Robocop coming out 2013 (meant to be) Was going to be made by Darren Arrenofsky (The Wrestler) but now its going to be directed by Jos? Padilha. And apparently he has just made a pair of highly violent cop movies in Brazil.

Love Robo 1, Robo 2 was nearly good and Robo 3 is made for kids pap. The annoying thing was Kids watched Robocop anyway. Ugh. New Robocop will probably either make or break on the design of the suit. To me anyway.

Also, I have just gone on a completely different route haven't I?

Not fan of remakes or reboot films , only liked one remake, the rest ranged from cr*p to just about watchable.

Saw the remake make of True Grit and i liked the old the John Wayne version more, but the True Grit remake wasn't to bad.

Its rare that a remake is better then the original film.

Wish Hollywoods lazy script writers would come up with some thing original, if that is possible and stop rehashing old stuff over and over.
