Re: Beating anxiety...
Thanks for these last few comments and bits of advice. As I said I am not permanently down, just wound up and feeling withdrawn for periods of a few hours then it is more or less ok and then it comes back again. I think I may have had the impression that everyone else in society leads a euphoric life and that I am kind of the odd one out that I don't (in addition to that low mood feeling I also have the anger, anxiety and withdrawness though, as I say) but the more I chat to people I know the more I realise that most people have periods of a few hours each day when they are feeling glum. It's just modern life I guess, but I am going to see my GP about the anger, withdrawness, headaches, anxiety etc. Thanks for the advice and help everyone.

Re: Beating anxiety...
Thanks for all the comments once again. My GP doesn't want to put me on medication, but I've bought some of those over-the-counter St Johns Wort tablets and have started taking them. My GP is refering me to see someone for a chat though so I'm waiting to hear.
Re: Beating anxiety...
Be careful before you start taking St Johns Wort as it is well known to interact with other drugs that may be prescribed to you at some point. I believe it's actually prescribed in Germany, but I presume their doctors are a little more open minded than our own.
Why not try some Valerian tablets or tea to start with? They are quite good for mild anxiety and will generally just "take the edge off things."

Over the counter tablets...
I bought some St Johns Wort after visiting several chemists and getting advice. A close relative of mine works in a Holland & Barrett shop and she told me they have good own-brand things there but I thought I would try St Johns Wort. I've noticed a positive effect very quickly, these pills certainly take the edge off of the anxiety. Thanks for all the advice and care once again my fellow forumites!
Re: Over the counter tablets...
I've read most of this thread and I agree that St.Johns Wort can help with anxiousness and mild depression. However, be careful when using it. If you are on other medication you must tell your doctor as it can 'interact' badly with it.
But I would advise going to your doctor anyway. It sounds like you need professional advice. I've heard of the symptoms you describe before and while it may not be true for you, this person had depression, which needed to be properly managed.
As i say this may not be what you have but your doctor can advise you on St.Johns Wort as well.
!happy!

Max...
Hiya Max
Glad to hear the St. John's Wort is helping.
I would echo Lara's statement about being careful as to which medicines, if any, you took at the same time as the St. John's Wort.
A study has been carried out with regard to its effectiveness which is on the NHS website below. It is also worth noting that herbal remedies are not tested, monitored to the same extent that pharmaceuticals are, as far as I know, so you may find that St John's Wort from different suppliers has different strengths, reliability or side-effects.
