Beating anxiety...

Post by max_tranmere »

Does anyone on here suffer from anxiety, and if so how is a good way to overcome it? I've had it for ages and aswell as a withdrawn feeling, a feeling of being so wound up you almost want to punch a wall (I never will but you feel like it) - and a general low mood/headache - you also get this feeling that there is like an inner-demon in your mind that is messing everything up for you. I say that because I always wake up feeling happy and not anxious or stressed, then memories of things from years ago start to occupy my mind and within half an hour I am wound up like I've just outlined. If you could you wouldn't do this to yourself, but it's like your mind wants you to be messed up in this way and will just hammer away until you have all of the things I've just described going on. It is very strange. Any anxiety suffers on here got any tips?

Seriously Max go and see your GP. Are you on any anti depressants? Is there an underlying trend that is causing you to feel anxious? Eg money or work worries or worse wondering if Arsenal will ever buy another player?
Speak to a professional, some counselling can work wonders, I've been there more than once and still take a mild anti dep to keep things level.

I agree with Arginald, you need to see a councilor or phycologist (sic) seeing a councilor does not mean you are mentally ill, it means you realise things are not quiet right, which you have shown by reaching out to this forum and are willing to do something about it

It was the best thing I ever did. Spent 10 weeks 2 sessions a week, they don't try and fix you, just let you talk things out it is amazing how you end up getting to the route of problems you never realised were problems or were causing you stress and anxiety.

It has made a world of a difference to me, I hope it does the same for you too.

Sorry to hear this. I can only concur that you should try getting some professional help.

In the meantime, I would suggest regular exercise e.g. running, getting out to the countryside for a long walk etc etc. Most people will tell you that regular exercise helps reduce stress levels and gives you a boost in terms of how you feel about yourself.

Cheers

Hi,
As well as regular physical exercise like running and walking in the countryside up hills etc etc, I would suggest that you keep clear of anything that buggers you up physically like heavy drinking and also try yoga. Yoga and meditation, if practised regularly, has the capability of changing people's mental outlook in a positive way.

Cheers
