Been into Gil since the early 80's, a true genius, profound lyrics backed by some of the coolest jazz ever performed. If you've never heard his material do your ears a favour and check him out.

I met GSH when I filmed an interview with him many years ago at the Jazz Cafe. Sadly he wasn't at his most coherent that evening but it was clear I was in the presence of a very profound and gifted man.

Had the joy of seeing Gil Scott Heron perform in Copenhagen a long, long time ago. A great mix of percussion, jazz, funk and poetry that went down a storm.

Pity that he spent many years of late battling the demons of drink and drugs, but be grateful for what we got - a great artist.

Cheers

This may be of interest. An hour long mix of stuff from Gil Scott Heron played by DJ Gilles Peterson.

Cheers
