i remember some of the fans being upset when Lorenzo Amoruso was made the captain. He was the first Catholic Captain of Rangers. And some Rangers fans were extremely unhappy about the appointment of Le Guen because he was a Catholic and were happy that he failed!

Meatus, thats very interesting. I personally never understand why people voluntarily live in another country when they don't like the place. They could leave and be happy. I'm not saying this applies to all the descandants of the Irish in and near Glasgow, but it does apply to a lot of them. I've met a few second and third generaion Irish people in London who despise Britain yet keep living here. They go on about Ireland all the time, even though they've never lived there and wear an Ireland shirt all the time yet stay here. Makes no sense to me. Years ago they had no choice but to come as Ireland was so poor and they came to places like Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester and London for work. That is not the case anymore and hasn't been for decades. If they hate it here they should leave (I'm not saying this applies to everyone here of an Irish background -I've met people of Irish descent here who love the place). I've heard that some of the Celtic fans in Glasgow refer to the locals as 'huns' and hate the indigeonous Scots with a passion, whilst continuing to live this side of the water. People like that should go, and if they don't go voluntarily they should be kicked out.

Two of the things mentioned are:

and

They're gonna have their work cut out with that.

Well it's make them financially/morally responsible for the trouble, then. Games played in closed stadia, and criminal charges against clubs, players and managers for threatening behaviour or unruly conduct.

The problem is not Celtic and Rangers.

They are symptoms of the problem.

It is simply that Scotland and Northern Ireland are split along religious lines. These splits are far more important than people want to admit.

A minority of people on both sides in Scotland would love to do what the Serbs Croat's and Muslims did in Bosnia.

Given half a chance they would rile up the populations in much the same way that Hitler did in Germany. Indeed Hitler tried to cause problem's for the UK by stirring up problems between catholics and protestants in Scotland.

If it were not for English control of Scotland the religious lunatics in Scotland would do that given half a chance.

The reaction has been so high this time as the police think that the problem it is getting worse. A recession causes these things to flair up. The police think that the whole situation in Scotland will flair up and they are trying to prevent this happening.

I'm aware there are big issues between the two communities. I mentioned earlier that some people on the Catholic side refer to the Protestant Scots as 'huns', which is as ridiculous as it is offensive. The last I heard 'hun' was a term for a German warmonger in the 1930s and 40s, not a term for the Proddies in western Scotland in the modern day. And what is the most crazy in all of this is these people who hate the locals and the country voluntarily live there. Why don't they move to Ireland, where their forebares came from, and be happy?

My company MD and one of the board members are Celtic fans and they often call us Rangers fans huns. Odd considering William of Orange was Dutch.
