Less than 3 weeks after Susannah York, another icon of the 60s/70s - though not quite of the same magnitude - passes away. 58 is much too young to die. Cancer once more shows its ugly face. Farewell, Maria.

A great performance performance opposite Marlon Brando in Last Tango In Paris, RIP Maria.

Beautiful woman but the LTIP was utter drivel. Never understood the hype.

I remember sneeking into Last Tango (X Cert) when it first came out. I'd be a spotty 16 year old, and Maria was the first full frontal nudity I saw on screen.

Happy memories. Really beautiful woman. Really sad to hear she has died. She did look ill though on that 2010 picture on the Daily Telegraph Link.

Another good Maria Scneider film is Antonioni's The Passenger with Jack Nicholson. Well worth a look.

She was great in Last Tango In Paris. Never saw her in much else though. Last Tango In Paris is one of the greatest movies ever made! And is definitely Brando's finest moment! The scene were he talks about his life growing up and his alcoholic mother is fantastic and wasn't even in the script. That is Brando's on life. And the scene of him talking to his deceased wife is just utterly breathtaking! Brando was supposed to get the Acadamy Award for this performance, but was rejected by the Acadamy as he had 'insulted' them the year before by refusing to accept his best actor award for 'The Godfather' in response to the treatment of the Native American's by the Federal Government!

A fine performannce bt Maria too. She will be missed.

If you never understood the hype, you weren't around in the early 1970's.

It was the first mainstream film I can recall that showed full frontal nudity (and lots of it).

That was why it was hyped.

I've been reading Maria's obits over the last few days, and she says she was only 19 years old when those scences were being filmed.

Mainstream films with beautiful 19 year olds spending most of the film in the nude are few and far between even today.
