Forums

Post by FridaySe »

I was idily browsing online looking at a couple of forums that are full of "borrowed" adult content and I was wondering what the webmasters, models, photographers and everyone else thinks of forums like this?

I know a couple of webmasters and their opinions vary. Some don't really care that much since in their opinion someone who downloads from a forum is highly unlikey to even bother joining a site. So no revenue lost.
While others take steps and have the files deleted from the file host and on occasion tracking down the poster and taking steps to make sure they never post material again.
And others still, see a small amount of material popping up in forums as part of modern internet life.

I should probably add that I browse said forums as a favour to find material from a friends sites, so any links/files can be deleted.

No point, curious about the industry attitudes.
As I said, i've come across a few and it got me thinking and wondering what others thought.

And i'd say this should be one of the best places to find out.

As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter what the subject matter is, be it porn, music, art, etc... theft is theft.

Those webmaster friends of yours who don't care on the basis that they personally haven't lost revenue are missing the point. The more people believe that everything on the web is "free to download because it's in the public domain" (a spurious argument, by the way, as being "in the public domain" doesn't suddenly make something free for you to use as you see fit), the less incentive there is for anyone to produce anything new. Why create anything if people are just going to steal it?

One thing which i find very strange is if the industry hates these forums then why havent ALL those who own the content not sent a request for their material to not be allowed on them?

The lists on 2 well known ones are pititfully small when you consider porn makes up 70-80% of the internet

For what its worth I think the free forums are out of control

When you see entire sites(suze randall was the last one)being offered for free and the uploader thinking this is Ok because the site isnt on the forums banned list you know something is seriously wrong o

The law is an ASS and apparently IMPOTENT it would seem

Good point. I'd be interested in knowing what those 2 forums are, to see if I already have them on my check list.

I fairly sure you won't and shouldn't post them here, but please feel free to email me.
