Fire extinguisher thrower gets jailed...

Post by max_tranmere »

Happy New Year everyone, I have been away.

Back to business. The student who hurled the fire extinguisher off the roof of MillBank Tower during the recent student protests was today jailed for 2 years and 8 months. His mother was interviewed in a newspaper yesterday and she said she hoped the Judge would not make an example of her son, but it appears today that is exactly what has happened. I think he deserved to be jailed as it landed just a metre away from some Police Officers and would likely have killed one of them had it hit them. I think the tariff is excessive though, does anyone else agree? The next time a Judge sends someone down for something like this I bet the sentence is much shorter.

Happy New Year, Max,

Personally, I think if you drop a fire extinguisher from the top of a multi-storey building and it lands within a metre from some police officers that can be construed as attempted murder I would have thought.

2 years and 8 months when presumably he will only serve half of that, seems quite a lenient sentence even though his mam mighnt agree with this treatment of her loved one.

Cheers

I wonder if a cheap defence lawyer might have come up with...

"My client was alarmed at the rapidly deteriorating situation taking place below and, out of concern for the possibility of fires breaking out, was merely attempting to provide preemptive assistance to the assembled constabulary".

No. About right - now if other judges could start sending people down for real sentences - one or two politicos who are coming up before the beak spring to mind...

Fair tariff and very loud warning to other students who might be planning to smash up some property in the coming months. Forget the tuition fees issue, the lad committed a serious crime as such must pay the penalty. No further questions your honour.

Not quite. He wouldn't have gotten such a sentence for just smashing up some property. His action came close to attempted murder and that's a bit different.
